Oyster travelcard oddity by
Ian F.
Mrs. F. and I had to travel from Clapham Junction to Twickenham last night.
She has a Z1-3 monthly Travelcard on her Oyster, along with a few quid of
PAYG.
Neither of us remembered that you're meant to get a whatever-it's-called
(OEP?) to cover her to Twickenham (Z5), but when she put her card on the
reader at Twickers it worked fine, deducting the difference from her PAYG
balance. The same...

BAA & HEX/CONnect Cash In On Tube Line Closure by
CJB
As might be expected from the bankrupt wholly Spanish-owned BAA its
train services were cashing in big-time on the disruption to the
Piccadilly Line this weekend. In the past All Zone Travel Cards have
been accepted on both HEX and CONnect. However in an admirable
demonstration of 'rip-off' Britiain, and at the expense of its long
suffering airline passengers, BAA and its two Paddington /...

2009 stock by
Paul Corfield
The 2009 stock on the Victoria Line has now been let loose in peak
hours. Apparently it ran for the first time a few days ago but quite by
chance I caught on the way home tonight. Looks like the days of 67
stock are definitely numbered.

Oyster PAYG by
Stuart Johnson
Hi
Living in Scotland now I only visit London two or three times a year,
and not since PAYG became valid on NR in January.
Could you knowledgeable folks in London advise me as to the following
scenarios please.
Firstly Wimbledon. I usually arrive at Wimbledon off the tram,
touching in/out on the LU platform for onward travel. Presumably the

DLR 3 car trains by

I am reliably informed (via an internal notice) that the first 3 car
DLR trains have entered service today. MIG can now go and conclude
his "3 car" hunting expedition ;-)

Splat Nav by
Basil Jet
About a year ago, I broke down in the petrol station in Southwark Bridge
Road and phoned the RAC. The guy took several hours getting to me and told
me that he had gone to "the other Southwark Bridge Road in Bermondsey" and
when he couldn't find me, cancelled the job and went on to do someone else.
I said "I think you mean Southwark Park Road" but he said no, it was the
other Southwark Bridge...

"London's big Eye still turning at 10" by
Mizter T
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8555841.stm
I love the wheel - it's audacious and brilliant - who'd a thunk it'd
ever actually happen, a slice of the funfair ever so nearly opposite
Parliament, and yet it did. The latter is of course a bit of a neo-
Gothic theme park exhibit anyway. And then there's the rather
preposterous Tower Bridge down river too of course, which is...

Travelcard discounts on river services by
Simon Bradley
I see that Thames Clippers are offering discounts to travelcard holders -
does the travelcard in question have to be valid in Z1? I have a Z456
Annual Travelcard - is that enough to get me a discount?
Thanks

Freedom Passes - delays by
CJB
It seems that there is a delay in issuing replacement Freedom Pases In
London. Meanwhile the TfL and NR Oyster validators / gatelines are
warning that Freedom Passes are about to expire. After March 31 it
seems that there are going to be a lot of pensioners without any
concessions after March 31. It is rumoured that there are also
technical issues with the new chips which will delay the...

Freedom Pass "Expiring Soon" by
John Ray[_3_]
For about the last three weeks, when entering or leaving a NR or LT
station, I usually (but not always) get a message to the effect that my
Freedom Pass will soon expire. As it is dated 31 March it seems a bit
early to give such a warning. Is it possible that I have a problem with
my card and it will stop working before the due date?

London Black Cabbies learning to keep quiet, but... by
redcat
Just saw the article about London Black cab drivers being taught new
skills including when to give their fares quiet space. Head of taxi
regulation, Mr Mason told the FT: "It's a world-renowned service. The
drivers are always perceived to be some of the great characters you come
across in London.”
I beg to disagree. Characters, yes. But not greatest. I have a huge beef
with London cabbies....

Bloody Oyster by
Paul Cummins[_2_]
Another day in London, another Oyster problem.
Strangely, I've never had a problem with using it on the way out, only in central
zones.
Anyway. On Friday, finding myself at Northolt tube with £7.35 on my Oyster, I used
the Central Line to get to Liverpool Street, where I bought a laptop.
35 minutes later, I caught the 16.02 to Stratford, then the Docklands to Woolwich
Arsenal.

Through ticketing from tube to rail [part 2] by
martin
I've recently discovered that it's possible to tack local connections
on front of Advance fares. AIUI, if the train to the advance bit of
the journey is delayed, and I miss the connection, then my ticket
ought to be honoured on a later service.
I mentioned in passing in another thread that I've got a Advance
1st ticket from U12* London to Pollokshields West. The reservation
(obviously) only...

Another bus oddity: 812 by
Clive Page[_4_]
The other day I needed to reach the Old Street area and noticed on the
London Central Bus map leaflet the 812, which might have been useful.
But the leaflet says about the 812:
"Valid Freedom Passes can be used on this service (Bus Passes,
Travelcards, Oystercards and Saver Tickets are not accepted)."
By Bus Passes I assume it means the National Bus Pass for the over-60s
and handicapped. I...

What is the 969 bus for? by
Arthur Figgis
Waiting at a bus stop a while ago, I noticed the timetable for the 969.
Whitton - Roehampton, Tuesdays and Fridays only, one journey.
Why? It even has a Facebook group commenting on its infrequency.
Given the absence of such strategically vital bus links as the N213,
presumably there is a really good reason for the 969 to exist - but what
is it?
