Many thanks from a foreigner by Gnomo
Hi everybody. I am a foreigner who asked for help here, ages ago, in identifying a building near London. Many promptly suggested it should be the church of St. Mary's, Hanwell.

Shoreditch Rail Replacement Buses by Ian Jelf
I was working in Whitechapel yesterday morning. Just as an observation, I was surprised to see just how heavily loaded the Rail Replacement buses were between Whitechapel and Shoreditch. When the service was introduce, I expected most of Shoreditch's users to simply walk from Whitechapel rather than faff about changing and then possibly having a traffic-bound journey to Shoreditch. This...

Carriage nearest platform exit by Walter Briscoe
Can somebody point me to a site which indicates which carriage is nearest the platform exit for all tube platforms. e.g. at Moorgate, the platform exit is at the east end of the platform on Metropolitan and Circle lines while on the Northern line, it is on the 3rd carriage southbound and 3rd from back northbound - I take it one should not encourage perverse use of "No exit instead of...

Thameslink 2011 by J. Chisholm
Interesting bit in Modern Railways regarding (probable) implementation of 'Thameslink', with a halfway house to enable 12 car 16tph service. GN connection, major London Bridge changes to follow, after Olympics. Jim Chisholm

Strange TfL Travel News at midday by John Rowland
"METROPOLITAN LINE: Severe delays are occurring between Baker Street and Harrow-on-the-Hill due to an earlier signalling problem at Wembley Park. Good service on the rest of the line." How can you have severe delays in the middle due to an *earlier* problem, but a good service on the rest of the line?

Assistance programme for captured regulators by Baron Sydney von Harbour Bridge
Please support the captured regulators assistance programme. Most British people are unaware of regulatory capture, or the devastating effect it has upon its victims. Our first example, of many, is John Wadham, once a leading civil libertarian. Today, Mr Wadham, a victim of regulatory capture, is nothing more than Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Chief Constable of the IPCC Police...

Trains no longer waiting for pulling-up train by Tristán White
I've noticed, in the past few weeks, a decrease in courtesy when trains actually wait for passengers to leave the arriving train across the platform. Sorry, that made no sense did it? I'm talking about things like Finchley Road (Metropolitan to Jubilee) and Mile End (District to Central) and vice versa. In the past, if a train already on one platform gets there first, and the train on the...

How come the entire system collapsed this morning? by Tristán White
I don't think I've ever known it. Every single line had delays, mainly serious delays, or in the case of the East London Line complete failure. Why? Well, according to 7222 1234, it was signal failure - I called up as I was stranded. Appeared to be loads of different signal failures. Odd. Then when I finally got to Canning Town by bus, after giving up trying to go from Plaistow, it said on...

Oyster for single day UK visitors? by Albert
If two of us are coming into London from Sussex to go to the RA in Piccadilly, what is the best ticket option for getting the 38 from Victoria and back? Is it worth bothering with Oyster or best to just pay the full non-Oyster fare? We are not likely to come again for many months.

YP discounted Travelcard from LU station by Michael Hoffman
How much does a Young Person's Railcard-discounted Travelcard cost in 2007? Can you only get the Zones 1-D travelcard? What if I buy from a National Rail station? Anyone ever had trouble getting an LU ticket office to sell them such a thing? Why doesn't LU advertise it? Sorry for all the questions. -- Michael Hoffman

Companion Network Card by ONscotland
I have an annual gold card which incorporates a Gold Network Card. I also got a companion Network Railcard for £1. I thought that perhaps the more restrictive Network Card conditions would apply to this, but the companion card also says 'Network Gold Card' on it - so I was wondering does this mean the more generous T&C apply to this too?
