Own journeyplanner by
Ralf Mayer
Well, I did start gathering data and making my own journeyplanner to take
with me on a mobile, and I am able to find quickest routes through most
lines already... but some question to the line setup however remain, I am
certain you will have no difficulties helping me with them:
1) Shepherd's Bush: There is a station by that name on Central and on
Hammersmith & City - are that really...

HELP: Which is cheaper by
Tristán White
My Season ticket runs out tonight. I'm paid weekly at the moment as I'm
doing contract work.
This year I am working TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY,
and TWO DAYS just before New Year's Eve.
I'm out of the country at all other times.
I leave before 9:00 so it's peak-time travel.

Zone 1/2 Travelcard? by
Rick Blaine
On my occasional trips to London, I would purchase a one week Zone 1/2
Travelcard, slip it in with my LT Photocard and be covered for most of my
transportation needs.
With the advent of Oyster, I'm not sure that's the preferred way, or even
possible anymore. Assuming I would need to be in London once a year or so, what
would be the best ticketing solution these days?
Thx

Freedom To Choose by
F2C
Freedom To Choose is an unfunded volunteer group of licensees and
members of the public who feel that the Government has lied to them on
the smoking ban issue by not carrying though the promises made in its
manifesto. Even more concern is surfacing since the Health Minister,
Lord Warner, declared that there is a possibility of the ban extending
to outside areas.

Holloway Road Tube Work by
Ernst S Blofeld
There appears to be work going on beside Holloway Road tube station, on
some old railway land. Does anyone know what that apparent old alignment
was? Were there plans for a high-level station at any point?

W&C This Morning by
Kev
I've heard some excuses but no trains due to excessive dust following
weekend engineering work. What were they doing exactly? This is the
line that was closed completely not long ago to completely relay the
track (I think) so why didn't they do major engineering work when the
line was closed.
I wonder how much the dust cost the London economy? W&C, that would be
Metronet wouldn't it.

Utter rudeness by
cyril sneer
I was passing through a metropolitan line station this morning and saw
something that upset me at the time, and I just want to see what
everyone's take on it is. We were waiting on a train, and the customer
service assistant made an announcement that chiltern railways trains
were holding up the met line trains, and he would try and find out
where the next one was.
He went to the ticket office...

Albert Bridge by
Conductor in Charge of..........
Can anyone tell me why Albert Bridge was closed again all weekend? No
sign of any work and looking remarkably like one of TFLs make
congestion exercises! However will happily be proved wrong if anyone
knows a better reason. Did wonders for traffic on Battersea Bridge,
pretty much solified all the nearby roads at 15.00

Lengthening trains on the circle and Edgeware road branch of theDistrict lines by
Stef Richards
I think I read somewhere this week that the new stock ordered for the
Circle and Edgeware road branch of the District lines were going to have
one extra carriage, and therefore have a passenger capacity. Up from 6
cards to 7 if I remember correctly.
IS this going to involve a lot of platform lengthening, and if so where?
If not, then why wasn't this done years ago?
Or, (cynicism creeping in...

GNER waves goodbye by
Paul Corfield
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6182027.stm
Seems the government have kicked GNER off the East Coast franchise and
are going to retender it.
What a mess and in some ways a shame as I've found GNER to be a pretty
decent operator - admittedly from a small sample of journeys. I know
there have been lots of issues with delays and overhead problems which
may colour some people's views.

Using biomathematics to decide how safe tired drivers are by

a part in accidents, they've used biomathematical fatigue models.
Their Summary Report which has just come out about their fatigue assessment

For the actual report, you can read the 42-page document he...

Oyster PAYG with two caps? by
Martin Krieger
Say I do some bus rides in the morning and lot of tube journeys at off
peak time. Is Oyster intelligent enough to handle this?
Peak bus and Z1-3 or less off peak tube would be best capped at the peak
travelcard rate. But peak bus and Z1-4 or more off peak tube would be
cheaper with a combination of bus cap and off-peak travelcard cap. Does
this work or do I need two Oyster cards?
Thanks

ANNOUNCE: Christmas offers from Network Rail by

Network Rail have a new page on their website, offering discounts and
special deals at many of the shops that now clutter the concourses of
their London stations. There's also a "free food for a year" offer at
Victoria - if you like sushi, and are incredibly lucky in prize draws.

Commuting from MKC - EUS by

used the station as a starting point.
Has anyone got experience of commuting to London from Milton Keynes ?
