Extending point-to-point seasons next year by
solar penguin
Hi everyone.
This is probably a very obvious question that's been dealt with dozens
of times already, but Google doesn't seem to be turning anything up.
Currently, if you own a paper point-to-point season ticket, and want to
extend an off-peak return journey beyond its furthest point, you can
buy, from your local station, an off-peak cheap day return for the
excess portion before you start...

OEP by
David Cantrell
So now that Oyster PAYG is accepted between Victoria and Balham there
are lots of posters up at stations, and announcements at stations. But
none of them that I've seen/heard mention OEPs, so not only are they
hard to understand, they're being kept secret too! Nice little earner
for Southern there in penalty fares!

Travel beyond your Travelcard's validity - update by
Ian F.
As the original thread drifted, this is just to let you know that the
original plan didn't work!
Bear in mind this is pre 02/01/10.
Mrs. F. was told by the clerk at Balham that she couldn't extend her z1-3
monthly Travelcard to zone 5, unless it was for NR only. She ended up buying
a one-day z2-6 Travelcard as we needed to also use buses in Twickenham.
I'm sure he was wrong, but couldn't be...

Travel beyond your Travelcard's validity by
Ian F.
Basic question I know, but if you hold a monthly Travelcard on Oyster from
zones 1-3 and you want to travel to zone 5, do you just add a few PAYG quid
to the card to cover the additional fare?
Thanks,
Ian

Wimbledon to Edgware Road by
peter
About once a week I have to travel between Wimbledon and Edgware
Road. Up to yesterday, District Line trains from Wimbledon generally
alternated between Edgware Road and City. But yesterday I had to wait
for about five City trains before one departed for Edgware Road.
Coincidence? Or have LT made an unannounced cut to services so as to
accommodate the new Circle Line?

Why are most of the DLR Stations so close?
I also noticed the new Stations in the Stratford and Canning Town area are very close.

DLR new station by
PhilD
All,
I've read that South Quay station was "moved" recently (OK, not
actually moved, but replaced, but you know what I mean).
What I haven't ascertained though is which way? Towards Canary Wharf,
or towards Lewisham?
Thanks.

Royal Oak by
Basil Jet
I just noticed that the Royal Oak pub at Porchester Road/Bishops Bridge Road
has changed its name to The Porchester. I cannot imagine the business
benefit of renaming one of the few pubs in Britain to have had a train
station named after it.

Touching in/out at Stratford by
Beth
Can someone tell me if you can touch in/out with PAYG on the pink
route validators on the Overground platforms (there is both a sign
above them for touching in/out) or do you have to touch in on the
central line and then go over and touch the route validator if you
want to use the overground?
Also if you are using the Overground between Stratford and H&I do you
have to touch the route validators...

Kensal Whys by
Basil Jet
It looks like not only is the Buckaroo blockaded west of Queens Park for the
entire Xmas/New Year period, but the road outside Kensal Green station will
be shut for three days too. Since the road goes over a tunnel mouth rather
than a bridge, I'm wondering what's going on... surely they can't be
replacing the entire Kensal Green tunnel? That would certainly explain why
the rail closure is...

Leinster Gardens by
Recliner[_2_]
I had a few minutes in Bayswater to kill yesterday and decided to take a
look at the famous dummy houses in Leinster Gardens. I must say that the
false facades still work well, and are maintained (by LU?). Even the
pigeon deterrents are in place, exactly the same as on the adjacent
properties. In fact, I actually walked right past, distracted by the
building work next door.
But I wonder...

New Years Eve Station Closure by
Paul
I can understand why stations such as Charing Cross, Leicester Square
and Covent Garden have to close on New Year's Eve. But does anyone
know why stations such as Arsenal, Boston Manor, North Ealing, Sudbury
Hill and Wood Green are closed? Are they relatively lightly used, or
is there some other reason?:

Staines station by
Paul Scott
The DfT have announced nearly £400 thousand to be spent on improvements at
Staines station:
http://nds.coi.gov.uk/clientmicrosite/Content/Detail.aspx?ClientId=202&NewsAreaId=2&ReleaseID=409444&SubjectId=36
A little surprising as the Airtrack TWA order application is being processed
currently, and that explains how Staines station will be demolished and
rebuilt. Joined up planning?

DLR Train Captain Texting Whilst 'Driving' by
SB
Just come off the DLR at Tower Gateway at 19.33 tp be exact. Between
Limehouse and TG the train captain was sitting at the front with the
console open supposedly monitoring the operation of the train. However
during all of that time he actually sat there texting on his mobile
phone, with his attention fully on the message he was typing, and he
only stopped doing this when we drew into the TG...

Mainline rail staions always zone 1? by
elyob[_2_]
I'm probably mistaken, but I thought the mainline stations were
slightly different within the zones? Although landing within Zone 1, I
thought they counted as Zone 2 on a travelcard. Today I was told
different, but I just assumed that I could use my 2-6 outside London
as normal, but that's still allow me into a mainline station.
Am I going completely mad?

New central conductor rail - Stockwell by

Just noticed this morning a new section of rail which looked like it
might not be made of standard railway line steel.
Are they steel or something else which conduct better, since they
don't have to take any weight?

Stratford International now open by

To Southeastern High Speed services and shuttle buses from Stratford
platform 11 (the northernmost), which is the only way to get there.
Zero fanfare, but it appears to be true looking at Live Departures.
Will visit later.
