NLL resignalling postponed, says Ian Brown of TfL by
Richard J.[_3_]
I heard tonight at a meeting in Acton between local residents and
Network Rail/Tfl/LOROL representatives that Ian Brown (MD, London Rail,
TfL) had announced in his report to the Mayor at the TfL Board meeting
last week that the North London Line resignalling was to be postponed
until after the Olympics. This was reported by someone in the audience
tonight, and was clearly a complete...

Overcharged on Oyster? by
Tom Barry
Odd one this - I expected the overcharge, didn't expect that they
couldn't fix it or that I couldn't subsequently work out how it was
calculated.
Basics - rushing back for a train at Waterloo I got through the gates
before it left but just missed it (it left a minute early, I reckon). I
then went back out through the gates (touching out on the way) and took
the Tube back to Z2 rather than...

OTish. London visit. by
A.Lee
Hello all, I'll be making a trip to the Whitechapel Gallery on Saturday.
We'll be taking the Tube from St.P to Whitechapel (got one day
Travelcards).
Afterwards, we'll be having a walk around, a few things on the list -
Smithfield, Borough market, Globe Theatre, Lincoln and Grays Inn.
From the map, all of these look pretty walk-able from Whitechapel. Is
that so in real life?
Also, anything else...

Eurobus Express coaches still operating? by
Dominic
A few years ago I used to regularly see Bova Futuras belonging to
Eurobus Express in London. They were a new rival to Eurolines, and
their timetable leaflets were available at Victoria Coach Station. I
never travelled with them, and I've not seen them for a while now.
Were they a UK or foreign based company, and are they still operating?
Thanks, Dominic

FAQ Suggestion: List of Common Abbreviations? by
Tim Fardell
Can I suggest a Glossary section be added to the FAQ for this group
explaining the meaning of the abbreviations used here?
For example, the earlier thread entitled "LM penalty fares scheme: New
Oyster Bizarrity" (Message-ID:
) the
following abbreviations were used with no explanation, meaning I couldn't
make head nor tail of...

How cool is this!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/8506154.stm
The Clyde is 100-150 metres wide where they are using it, which is
comparable with the Thames at Battersea.
There must be places in London where some of these could run - and if they
had a few unused at the weekend, they might be able to run Jubilee Line
replacement services in East London, which they can't at the moment. But...

Clapham Common poo smell by
Offramp
Clap-ham Comm-on was shut today between about 16:25 and 16:35.
Ha-Haar! An 'twas a pretty short closure at that! Ha Haar!
It was caused by a still-unexplained smell of poo.

Dartford tunnel radio reception by
boltar2003@boltar.world
Is there a relay transmitter in the dartford tunnel? I assume there must be
since some stations remain clear even in the centre but how come only some
work? Heart is clear , LBC disappears into static about 100 metres in. Do the
stations have to pay a fee to be re-broadcast?

Kentish Town by
MaxB
Traveling from Cricklelwood to Bromley South today and changing trains
at Kentish Town (by guess as no information about the service appears
at Cricklewood) I was expecting an ex Sevenoaks to terminate and start
back. Instead, the ex SV terminated in Plat 3 and the 12 56 to SV
arrived at Plat1 from the north. Is this the normal arrangement or was
this a stock changeover? The empty arrival was...

What's the purpose of Oyster? by
Paul Cummins[_3_]
I've been thinking abot the Oyster card. I can see some of the major
benefits, lack of moving parts, no damage to ticket etc.
But I wonder if the primary reason for Oyster was to prevent dumbelling?
AFAICS It's impossible, on any Oyster card, to Dumbell a journey.
Anyone disagree?

Super off-peak Travelcard won't operate gates at many stations by
Clive Page[_4_]
Today I travelled to London on a super off-peak London One-day
Travelcard purchased from FCC at Luton Airport Parkway. I know from
past experiences that these tickets operate the gates at all TfL
stations that I've used, but consistently fail at those of South Eastern
Trains (e.g. Charing Cross and London Bridge). Today I also found both
of our tickets were rejected at London St.Pancras...

Oyster Exits at Kings Cross St Pancras not being recorded by
Tim Fardell
Twice now I have touched-out at Kings Cross St Pancras station on my way
to St Pancras International train station. On both occasions, the "Exit"
has not been recorded on my Oyster account, and I have been overcharged.
I know I touched out, because I managed to get through the barriers, so
how come it didn't register?

Have there been any in public service yet?
I hoped I'd get lucky when I arrived at Canary Wharf at 9am this morning,
but no sign. Nothing when I was on my way home either.

"Thousands use Oyster incorrectly on London trains" by
Mizter T
This is actually a story that has originated from TfL, in a bid to try
and raise awareness of the need to touch-in and touch-out (see below
for the article itself). No mention of any OEP issues, instead this is
just the old requirement to touch-in and touch-out, which will always
be a requirement unless the ultra-radical notion of a flat fare ever
came to be (which will happen right after TfL's...

Advice needed on getting last train by
DennyL
It has happened to me that I've know the time of the last train but, when I get to the station in good time, the station seems closed (grids pulled across entrances). Last week I went to Leicester Square station at about 12:15 and both the entrances facing each other on Charing Cross Road were closed. I walked to Piccadilly Circus and the station entrance near to Eros had its grid pulled to...
