East Putney to Clapham Junction by
Phil Clark
Travelling this morning on an engineering work special - which
travelled from Wimbledon to Clapham Junction via the District Line,
East Putney and Wandsworth Common - set me wondering - has this line
ever been used as a regular route? And would it be any use if it was?
I suppose it would connect Clapham Junction to the tube, but only to a
relatively remote part of it.
And do SWT services via...

Unusual terminal points on LU by
tshanazt@aol.com
Have there been any examples in recent times of LU stations temporarily
becoming terminal points (e.g. because of engineering work) but which
are virtually never used as potential terminal points at other times
even when the timetabled service falls apart for whatever reason? Do
train and platform destination signs just show "Special" or something
similar when a really oddball terminal point...

London Travelwatch forum dead by
Mizter T
I've just noticed that the forum on London Travelwatch's website has
been discontinued. I used a few times a while back when London
Travelwatch was still the LTUC, and it seemed a good way of
communicating general concerns as opposed to specific complaints with
staff at the organisation.

I hadn't visited lately so I can't comment on the activities...

Those little machines used by NR staff to check Oyster cards by
patrick1971@gmail.com
On my Oyster I have a Zone 1-2 annual travelcard for the commute from
my home to my regular office. Currently I'm working offsite in
Feltham, though, so in addition to that I have a Zone 3-6 monthly
travelcard.
This morning, on the train from Waterloo to Feltham, an especially
surly ticket inspector asked to see tickets. I gave my Oystercard, the
light on the little machine went green, all...

Hamm & City by
Edward Cowling London UK
Just about every night last week the Hammersmith & City line was either
delayed or not running at all. Couple that with problems on the Circle
Line
and I ended up using the only reliable way across town Friday evening.
My Feet :-)
I keep hearing about speed restrictions and buckled tracks. Is this
genuine
or another way for the LU management to have a pop at the private

thomasjyoung@gmail.com
hi all,
having looked through a number of pictures of centra buses. at their
depot. And I was wondering what was ment on a blind display that had a
red background and "V.O.R." on it, was it to denote dead running or
rail replacement or special Service etc... Any help would be muchly
appreciated,

Hi, is it safe for a girl to be visiting London by herself? I plan to
visit London this summer and I am both excited and worried.
Also I'd like to know the cost of the taxi from the airport to London
city. Thanks.
I am Natasha, from Russia. http://www.geocities.com/c4consultant

KXSP update - Western Ticket Hall opens May 28 by
John B
Email just received from TfL:
===================
Dear Mr Band,
From Sunday 28 May 2006 a number of changes need to be made to walking
routes and interchanges between the Tube, King's Cross and St. Pancras
mainline stations, to assist the redevelopment of King's Cross St.
Pancras Underground station.

Why can we never get anything built around here? by
unrealpolitik@gmail.com
Hi all,
I'm curious - is there some institutional or legal reason why it's so
hard to get new transport built in London?
The Parisians seem to manage it easily enough. But in London Crossrail
has made essentially no progress in twenty years, the Chelsea and
Hackney line remains entirely theoretical after longer, and Thameslink
2000 has become a joke.

The Tube: top quality by
John B
Hi all -
It's easy to bitch about the Underground, and to compare it
unfavourably with metros in Singapore, Hong Kong and so on. To redress
the balance, I thought I'd share details of my recent trip on the Rome
Metro.
My girlfriend and I were getting a train from Termini (the major
station; I guess KXSP would be the best comparison) to Circo Maximo
(historical bits, public park - Green...

Using Railcards at LU stations by
Sam
Does anyone know if there are particular LU stations where Railcards can be
used ?
I'm pretty sure I have used a Network Card at the LU window at Tottenham
Hale to buy a return rail ticket. I got one ticket which had CSN printed on
it, maybe concession ???
The reason I ask is that when I tried to use my Network Card to buy a
Discounted All Zones Travelcard at West Finchley they told me I...

KX TUBE - replacement steps opening schedule? by
kytelly
The other weekend I was up at KX and was suprised too see the new steps
replacing the old ones in front of WH Smiths still haven't opened.
They look completely finished behind the hoarding so is the idea to
open everything in a big bang rather than incrementally?

Parking near New Southgate station by
Sam
Hi all,
Does anybody know what parking is like at/around New Southgate station?
I'm looking to park near there around 8:30am tomorrow morning. Will I
find a space somewhere within 10 mins walk of the station, or should I
forget it? :-)
Thanks,

Bendy buses - driving styles by
James Dillon
One thing I've noticed a lot lately, both as a passenger and as a pedestrian
in central London, is the apparent gulf between the driving styles used on
many 'ordinary' buses, compared to that used on the bendy buses.
The former on the whole are badly driven, often with little concept of
smooth starting or smooth braking.
The Mercedes-built bendy buses seem a lot smoother - is this because...
