Eurostar to Paris by
Johannes
Sorry for my question being mostly off-topic, but maybe you can help
me anyway ...
Next week I'll be travelling from London to Paris by Eurostar. Maybe
someone on this group who uses this route frequently could give me an
impression whether the trains on this route arrive fairly on time at
Paris-Nord.
I have to catch a connection in Paris at Gare de l'Est, which is only
a short distance to...

Width Restrictions by
Alasdair
While driving from Pickhurst Lane, Bromley, Greater London, to the
M25 using my satnav. I was driving down a main road when suddenly I
was confrontedwith posts in the road restricting it to the width of
cars only. I didn't see any warning signs and I shudder to think what
would have happened had I been towing a largeish caravan or driving a
van or lorry.
I left the Pickhurst pub (where I only...

Purchase Virgin Train tickets online from US address? by
grusl
"AES" wrote in message
...
Anyone know how to purchase Virgin Train tickets (London-Holyhead)
online from a U.S. location?
When I try to do so on any of Virgin Train's ".uk" URLs, the "Address"
portion of the registration and booking page stays stubbornly greyed
out, and won't let me complete the registration...

North London Line blockade by
Peter Lawrence[_2_]
With the forthcoming ten week bloclade of the North London line, I am
surprised that LO cannot offer a replacement bus from Wet Hampstead,
and other stations on the line, to Willesdan Jn, Instead they offer
bus to Queens Park and then train, adding another change of mode and
therefore delay.
I am further suprised that LO's timetable does not give any times for
the replacement buses. Would...

Email to Network Rail regarding Liverpool Street by
thirty9king@hotmail.com
Hi,
I find trying to get out of Liverpool Street station in the morning
takes longer than it could, principally because there are too few
ticket barriers. Every morning there are large queues just to get to
the barrier. It now seems the staff have been told to not open the
disabled-access barrier to able-bodied passengers, making the problem
worse.
Across the entrance to platforms 13 and 14 is...

Bus Saver ticket withdrawal by
a.60@hotmail.co.uk
According to a brief glimpse of poster in my local newsagent, they
won't be sold after early September. Nothing that I can see on the TfL
website about this however.
I'm surprised that they lasted beyond the introduction of Oyster pre-
pay, and even more surprised that they weren't withdrawn when the
fraud occurred last year.

M25 pick up by
eastender[_3_]
For someone driving round the M1- M3 stretch of the M25 what would be a
good pick up station to collect someone on the way? ie, someone coming
from central London? I'm thinking Uxbridge, but maybe there's a better
one?
thx
E.

Aldwych branch train by
Boltar
Does the old northern line train on the branch get used much these
days? Does it ever go for a service - it must've been down there well
over 10 years now - or is it just going to stay there until it falls
apart and is carried out in bits?

OT - Blue plaques by
John Rowland
I think they would be a lot more useful if they had little flags hanging
above them, giving an indication of which people might be interested in
them. For instance, not many Londoners would be interested in a plaque about
how the founder of Bolivia once lived in this house, whereas Bolivian
tourists would probably like to have it drawn to their attention that of all
the blue plaques in...

Route 388 & Temple by
Chris Read
Around and about the City today, I note route 388 has been extended to
Temple - I believe this may have been the first day of the extension.
The original (2003) terminus of this route was Mansion House, with an
extension to Blackfriars in 2004. Now the 388 has gone one more stop along
the District Line. I wonder when the Embankment extension will happen?
Whenever I observe buses on this...

Connect failure by
Richard J.[_2_]
There seems to have been a major failure of the Connect radio system this
evening (15 Aug), leading to the suspension of the entire District and
Circle Lines, plus the H&C west of Baker Street and east of Whitechapel, and
the Piccadilly between Green Park and Acton Town.
Is it really necessary to shut down lines entirely if the radio system goes
down? Am I right in assuming that the tunnel...

Post Office Alley in Chiswick, London by
John Rowland
In Thames Rd aka Strand On The Green, just west of the railway bridge is an
alley called Post Office Alley which contains a small old floodgate at the
river end. Set into one wall of this alleyway is a line of solid metal knobs
which are shaped like carpentry dovetails. The line is level (i.e. level
with a spirit level rather than level with the rather sloping ground). There
is nothing in...

Out-Boundary Travelcard Season Price by
MIG
Does anyone know a site where one can look up prices for seasons from
out of London including travelcard?
The NRE site only offers station to station prices in the season
ticket calculator, and even if you put a London Suburb it just tells
you there's nothing available, rather than offer the travelcard
version (which would normally fit the bill and more).
Calling NRE tends to get variable...

Bus Stops on Diversion by
MIG
I seem to remember discussion here establishing that when there is an
emergency diversion, buses don't stop at the stops on the alternative
route (no matter how much you beg to be let out with your heavy
shopping near home rather than be taken to somewhere there's no way
back from), but that they do stop if there's a planned diversion.
This doesn't seem to be the case with buses diverted from...
