Oyster a real time waster by
Clive Page[_4_]
Yesterday I tried using my Oyster card on National Rail for the first
time. In just 2 NR journeys and 2 tube trips I got at least two
problems. The first unresolved journey (ticket barrier at London Bridge
NR at fault, apparently) I managed to get sorted out at South Kensington
ticket office by merely queuing for 10 minutes, first refund £4.
When finishing the day at King's Cross my...

Rather interestingly, the poor management being criticised here is not
that of Metronet (though that seems a given, considering it
collapsed), nor that of LUL/TfL, but that of the DfT... here's an
excerpt of the...

Is London Overground part of National Rail by
Roy Badami
Subject says it all. Is London Overground part of the National Rail,
network, or not?
The observation that triggered the question was seeing, on one of the
maps on board a tube train, a station showing an interchange opportunity
with London Overground, but *not* showing the National Rail symbol
against the station name. Which would seem to imply not.

I'm on a "via Victoria" (anticlockwise) circle train that started from
Edgware road on platform 2, which necessitated crossing from the other
island where the westbound Hammersmith train (albeit a Metropolitan) had
arrived at platform 4.
To achieve a cross-platform change I would have had to wait until a
District Line train reversed in platform 3 (there was none present at
the time). And...

Long DLR Train by
MIG
This morning I've seen a three-unit train running on the DLR, with the
designation "Special", in between other services.
(Am I the only one having trouble perceiving the "articulated
vehicles" as anything other than units of two coaches?)
Presumably it is some kind of test run. The one I saw was made up of
the new units.

Old LT Country Bus network. by

How much of this still exists in some form? I believe the 405 to
Redhill and the 409 to East Grinstead as they are now were once part
of it, but what else is there?

Crap high streets by

There are a few high streets which are rather underwhelming, such as Lambeth

New Google-ised bus mapping on the TfL website by
Mizter T
The fact that the bus maps section of the TfL website has had a bit of
a shuffle around got an oblique mention in the "Amfibus" thread,
however the innovation which is at the root of that shuffle around
didn't specifically get flagged up.
TfL now have a new Google Maps based system on their website that can
show London bus routes overlaid on the street map - best way to
comprehend it is to check...

Blind Lamps by
Q
I Wonder how many buses are running around at night (or in the dark) with
non working blind lamps?
I can't think of the last time I saw a fully working lamp set. Most I've
seen/used have only the number illuminated which is fine if you know what
number bus you want rather then where it's going, or even a old school 'via'
point.
Don't garages VDI there buses before they go out on a turn or...

Stratford Signage, National Rail -- DLR platforms by
Tim Fardell
On Friday, I arrived at Stratford Station by train, and started following
the signs for the DLR platforms. These all pointed in the same direction
as "Way Out". The last sign for DLR I saw pointed me straight ahead,
towards the main station exit gate line.
When I reached the main station exit, there were no further visible signs
for the DLR. The last one I saw pointed me straight out through the...

Two hour Central line shut down during evening rush hour by
Mizter T
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8520999.stm
Some kind of signalling problem near Liverpool Street area nuked the
service at around 5.30pm. The above story says the whole line was out
of action - a later radio travel report I heard suggested that the
line wasn't running between White City and Leytonstone, maybe the
situation changed over time though. Regardless, most definitely...

Oyster PAYG on National Rail by

An OEP is needed when a card holder has both a Travelcard season
ticket and Pay-as-you-Go credit on their Oyster card and wishes to
travel from a station within the validity of their Travelcard season
ticket to a station within the Travelcard zones but not within the
validity of their Travelcard season ticket.
Not for travel on the tube, surely? I thought you always used to just...
