New Year by
CJG Now Thankfully Living In The North
London spent £4.5million advertsing London as the place to celebrate
New Year and then London Underground and the Met. Police got together
telling people not to travel into London as it will be too busy.
Nothing will be open. Underground stations will close because of
overcrowding. Money well spent (!)
New Years Day parade though was great in Central London as it was last
year. Maybe next year...

More roundels by
John Rowland
Hi all,
I noticed the other day that the white plates on the back of taxis now have
a little blue roundel on them, because the Public Carriage Office is now
part of TfL. I believe the plates are issued yearly, so plates with the old
PCO logo will still be around for the best part of a year.

Pre Pay, first Monday morning by
Kat
If anyone wants a dead cert number for the lottery this week, may I
suggest 24; the error code that shows you've travelled out of zone on
your Oyster and have no Pre-Pay..... not that you ever wanted any or had
even heard of it.
So when I'd finished reflecting on the fact that I alone was responsible
for the January price hike, there was good old 24, popping up over and
over again to add...

Another Oyster Prepay Thread - How Do You Buy It? by
I@n
I do not have a photocard.
Oystercard.com won't let you buy a prepay card without a photocard
number.
Oystercard telephone sales won't let you buy a prepay card without a
photocard number.
Fulham Broadway tube station (admittedly the only one I've tried at
but it's not exactly small) are adamant that there is no such thing as

OY-OY-Oy Oyster AAAAARGH! by
Helen Deborah Vecht
I need to rant!
I have an Annual Bus Pass and use the Tube only occasionally. It seemed
clear that I should get an Oyster Pre-Pay card to save money on my Tube
fares.
I filled in an Oyster Registration Form and took it to Burnt Oak Station
some weeks ago. I was told to return the first time I wanted to use the
Tube after the fares went up.

Transport for London - Capita by
timlandslide@hotmail.com
I am just wondering if anyone has had dealings with Capita regarding
congestion charging and what their experiences might be.
I personally have never before come across such bad management and
stupidity on such a scale. Also I am curious to know why they can
operate with no discretion at in terms of dealing with errors which
there system is full of.

Which LU lines have trains with the most and least "oomph" for want of a
technical expression (power-to-weight ratio?).

Historic Wembley railway by
John Rowland
Hi all,
The summary of the planning application for (post-stadium) development in
Wembley is currently being given away in Brent libraries. One of the maps
reproduced therein is from the plan for the Empire Exhibition of 1924.
This map shows a railway starting at "North End Station" which is yards
southeast of Wembley Park station, at the west end of todays's North End
Road. This railway...

HELP purchasing Eurostar tickets off Friends by
L.S
Hi if anyone could help me regarding a ticketing inquiry with the
EuroStar I might have it would be much appreciated.
Recently I purchased some Eurostar tickets off someone who didn't need
them anymore as his plans where changed and I'm starting to get
worried about using them especially on New Years Eve. I phoned up
Eurostar and they told me you can't yet my flat mates have done this
before and...

Signs at St. James' Park by
Joe
Why are some signs at St. James' Park spelled St. James's Park and some
spelled St. James' Park. I'm quite surprised they didn't notice it when they
were put up ages ago.

Congestion charging expansion plans: zone expansion. by
Gordon Joly
If the zone becomes the area inside the North and South Circular
roads, then I (for one) will be inside. Will I be eligible to pay 10%
of the charge to drive inside the new zone? I am outside the current
zone and pay the full charge, to drive to say Oxford Sreet.
So there will be less of disincentive for me to use my car. Is that
the intention?

Thameslink... by
Marcus Fox
Friday 2nd of January - do they have engineering works or something as
services don't seem to be running (northbound) through to Kings Cross when I
check the timetable online. How much extra time will I have to add on to my
journey if I have to go to Victoria instead and take the tube? I know there
are timetables online, but they don't hold the tube times and add on way to
much time for the...

Victoria Station, Heathrow BA check-in? by

Can anyone tell me if BA offers luggage check-in at Victoria Station for
flights departing from Heathrow? I have heard that they offer this

reducing congestion by
Cast_Iron
Given the that the increased road congestion in Friday and Sunday evenings
is caused by many people going and from to their country cottages for the
weekend, isn't it time that second homes attracted a punative rate of
council tax?
An added bonus of this would be to free-up houses in rural and other
touristy areas that young people on local wages could afford to buy or rent
who would then spend...

Edgware Road - Olympia service? by
Richard J.
At Bayswater station this afternoon (Sunday), the westbound platform
indicator was scrolling a message which read something like "When the
Olympia service is operating, customers for Wimbledon should change at
Earl's Court". It continued to display this from time to time, even when a
Wimbledon train was indicated.
Is there ever a direct Edgware Road - Olympia service? I thought the

Buses Acceptable ? by
Edward Cowling
Someone said to me the other day that if nothing
else Ken Livingstone had made buses an acceptable
way to travel.
Everyone uses buses these days, they said.
Do they ? I still consider the bus as drop in
centres on wheels and would rather walk 5 miles
in the rain than use one.
