No new runway for Heathrow by Colin
There has just been a report on News 24 that the White Paper to be published in mid-December will NOT recommend a third Runway for Heathrow at this time. Instead it will recommend a third runway at Stansted. Had an interview with BA who were most definitiely not pleased at this news. Their main point is that Stansted is not suitable for long haul and they require a single hub. Then there was...

Surface stock by John Rowland
Hi all, The rumour mill says that the new surface stock should be ready to replace the A, C and D stocks in 2013, and that it will also be used on South London Metro services. It will have some method of dealing with curved platforms (I'm guessing short articulated carriages). The Acton Town to Uxbridge services will become part of the District Line, with all Piccadilly trains going to...

Ping John Rowland and others by Ian F.
A while ago, I heard about a map or document that told you which were the most convenient interchange stations on the underground line by line - in other words, where *not* to change lines as it was a long walk/lots of stairs etc. Despite searching, I can't find it. Would John or anyone know its whereabouts? TIA

Aldgate Station Incident by Nathan Whitington
Hello folks, I wondered if anyone could clear this one up. Upon my searches for a LUL roundel on google images, I found this website (from a picture of a subway leading to the underground) http://www.zuko.com/weird_and_spooky_places.htm If you scroll down a little of the way, a small written piece outlines an apparent incident involving a track-worker. Although full of inaccuracies (i.e the...

'That's a nice tie' by Ken Wheatley
I was on the Central Line today. I noticed a striking looking woman get on at, I think, St. Pauls and sit opposite me. At Holborn she got off. But at she stood up, she looked at me and gave me a great big smile. 'That's a nice tie' she said, then got off. Very small, but it just about made my day. No-one had told her it was mandatory to studiously ignore everyone else on the tube. She...

Lights on M4 by J. Public
Hi All, Just wondering if anyone knew what the sets of small orange and blue lights are, on the M4 section approx J1-J3. They are mounted on the central lamp-posts, and are quite small. Never seen them working. Also, on the eastbound (Londonbound) side, one of the gantries at about J3 had what looked like a very small set of traffic lights (only two lights though) mounted on the right hand...

New Years Eve/Day transport by Jim Brown
People are telling me that the tubes are going to run for 24 hours this new year. Is this true or will only be the usual extra hour before total shut down?

Route 73 to be converted to Bendi Bus by Martin Whelton
Tfl have announcend that the 73 is to be converted to Bendi Bus next year. The route will be revised to run between Stoke Newington and Victoria(withdrawn between Stoke Newington and Tottenham) at a reduced frequency and the veichle requirement will be reduced from 55 to 41, a 25% reduction though part of this is due to the curtailing of the route. Akthough Bendi buses cater for larger number of...

easy to fare dodge on new bendy buses by Pritesh
The new bendy buses are introduced on certain bus routes. Passengers can aboard through any of the 3 doors & the ticket must be purchased before boarding the bus. But whats there to stop anyone boarding the bus without buying a ticket or a pass and having a free bus ride. Okay theres a £5 penalty for not having a valid ticket or a pass if caught by a bus inspector. £5 fine is hardly a deterrent....

Blackwall Tunnel Sunday Nights by Big Al
I've driven back from London Stansted on a Sunday night a few times recently, only to be informed by the overhead signs that the Blackwall Tunnel is closed. Why does this tend to happen on Sunday nights? Thanks.

Delays on 8 & 9 December by romic@cix.compulink.co.uk
According to RMTs info to train staff: "The RMT has ordered two days of action to highlight safety on the tubes. On these days, train operators will drive at a maximum of 35 miles an hour. On areas of track of particular concern, drivers will be advised to drive at lower speeds. This will affect the entire network as the union believes that there are no areas that are up to standard. This is...

Sim-L-Bus by Peter Wright
Does anybody know what happened to the Sim-L-Bus driver training simulator that was at LT's Chiswick training centre in the 1970's ? Searching the web revealed that 'Sim-L-Bus' is now a registered trade mark, but nothing else. Thanks in advance.

It's in full London Transport red livery, with "250 Epping" on the blind. I don't know how long it's been there or how long it will be there. Where have all the RMs gone? by Nes
Sorry if this has been taclked before! Just wondering why are all the RM-type crew buses being withdrawn? First the 94, then 15 and now the 11? I know there are others, but those routes are what first comes to mind. Nes. -- To reply directly to me, please remove all the spam-deflecting X's! Either that, or simply reply to the group!

From http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/3245257.stm: ----------------- London Underground (LU) workers from one Tube line are to go on a 24-hour strike in protest at the sacking of a union activist. The man was seen coming out of a squash club while on sick leave. The Rail Maritime and Transport union (RMT) claim he had medical proof saying sporting activity was part of his recovery...

The effects of a road congestion tax by Tom Sacold
The effects of a congestion tax may not be what NuLabour want to hear. "A national road charge will put more pressure on Britain's already brittle public transport infrastructure, Ministers have been warned. With rural bus services already under threat, and overcrowding endemic on urban train lines, public transport would be stretched to breaking...
