Ticket gates at Thornton Heath by David Cantrell
Good news! There are now automated ticket barriers at Thornton Heath, so the local pikey scum will have to buy tickets! The bad news is that: * ticket barriers slow people down, and this is a very busy station, with a narrow gate-line; * they're not very good at reading Oyster cards, most cards I observed taking at least two attempts to read them

DLR delta junction flyunder by Ganesh Sittampalam
Hi, The new flyover/under at Delta junction on the DLR seems to have been finished for a couple of weeks now, but I haven't seen any trains actually use it. Anyone know why, and when it will be brought into action? (I know it's only supposed to be for peak-times, but that's when I travel.) Ganesh

Lying Sky News Caught out Trying to Talk up Fake UKIP Party by stjaotw@googlemail.com
http://bnp.org.uk/2009/06/lying-sky-news-caught-out-trying-to-talk-up-fake-ukip-party/ Sky News has humiliated itself by publishing a totally bogus report on internet reach, deliberately distorting figures to try and talk up the fake UKIP party ahead of tomorrow’s European elections. In an article titled ‘UKIP Receive Google Boost Ahead Of Elections’, Sky News falsely claims that more people...

Customer Charter Refund by nimbusjunk@yahoo.co.uk
It looks like the days of getting a four pound voucher are over. They now only pay the PAYG fare ( unless you had bought a cash fare) This is a little mean! I always thought a bit extra was fair. Still gone are the days of being with my three kids on a family travel card which cost about £3.50 and I got £16 back for a delayed journey

ELL works trip by John B
I'm going on a trip with work to cover the ELL worksite next week, alongside various railway and civils hacks, visiting Shoreditch High Street, Dalston Junction, Thames Tunnel and NXG depot. Anyone got any qns/issues/areas that they've been wondering about, that I'd be an idiot to miss out on, etc? -- John Band john at johnband dot org

Canning Town DLR flyover now open by Mr Thant
I took a detour on the way home today to check out the new flyover. Trains to/from Beckton are using the bridge, meaning the junction for the City Airport branch is finally grade separated. One oddity is that trains from City Airport cross under the bridge before using a mini diveunder to cross back. Another oddity is the points for the third platform at Royal Victoria. For the sake of about...

Ba-da- Bing! by John Rowland
Windows Live Local is now redirecting to the Bing site as part of Microsoft's attempt to oust Google. I still use WLL for birds-eye views in those areas not covered by Google Streetview, but the site has been largely superceded by Google Maps and will remain so until they add Streetview functionality. I don't know where the Bing name came from.... "Meetoogle" would have been more honest.

Oyster revenue allocation question by Scott
A mate and I got into a discussion about how the revenue from the Oyster card is allocated between participating operators. If I make a journey on a bus at a cost of £1, I assume the £1 goes to the bus operator (possibly with deduction of a service charge). If I then travel on the tube at a cost of £2.20, logically this money would go to London Underground. This brings the total spend to...

Boris & co's narrow miss whilst out cycling by Mizter T
Mayor Boris and members of his transport team - including Transport Commissioner Peter Hendy and the Mayor's Director of Transport Policy Kulveer Ranger - were out and about on their bikes on Friday morning just gone cycling around in east London, doing a bit of scouting around in connection with the upcoming "Cycle Super Highways" project, when this happened on Narrow Street in Limehouse......

Bus Route W19 by Phil Richards
We are in the process of buying a house in Walthamstow on the W19 route. Having done plenty of Google Street Viewing etc. to "explore" the area I am curious as to how the W19 bus makes its way to the end of the route in the industrial areas around Argall Avenue. Have a look at: http://tinyurl.com/kp67z8 And you'll see the bus stops yet no apparent connection between from South Access Road....

Commuters suffer while Crowe inflates his ego even further by boltar2003@yahoo.co.uk
Not content with creating yet another pointless strike on the victoria line about bugger all, this dyed in the wool ****** now seems to have political ambitions over and above herding a bunch of thick militants on to picket lines. Perhaps he sees the chaos he causes on LUL as a stepping stone to the chaos he could cause in a parliament somewhe http://no2eu.com/bobsblog.html B2003

Prepay on national rail/staff pass by tom2004@gmail.com
Hello! Just recently noticed the prepay oyster readers (as in the stand-alone on platform ones for when the ticket office area is closed and passengers enter through an open gate) have appeared, albeit covered up at the moment, at Crayford station in Z6 which is a Nat Rail station. Obviously this means that they are extending the payg system to National Rail in London, but the million dollar...
