Wimbledon - East Putney engineering works by Paul Scott
SWT's advance engineering works info for the Easter weekend shows a 6 tph service through East Putney. Will this result in a much reduced District Line service? "Two Basingstoke/Alton to Waterloo services per hour, two Woking to Waterloo services per hour and two Shepperton to Waterloo services per hour diverted via East Putney. (Sunday: Woking service starts at Guildford; one Kingston via...

Shepherds Bush by Paul Scott
If I may, I'd like to recommend Mr Thants update to the Shepherds Bush platform saga. Good cross sectional drawing of the infamous wall behind the northbound platform, explains the difficulty of moving it, and showing the lights bracketed off the wall, as previously suggested. (As an aside - has it been designed that way to try and prevent wayward buses falling onto the...

St Albans Country Bus Running Day Questions by Ian Jelf
A last minute change of plan (job cancellation, sadly) had the up-side that I'll be able to get along to the St Albans Country Bus Running Day this Sunday (13 January). I've never been along to one before as weekends tend to be workdays for me and am really looking forward to it. Now as there isn't time for me to send off for one of the running sheets, can anyone here tell me: (a) What...

Bank Station - W&C by lonelytraveller
Now that Bucklersbury House is finally being flattened, there are plans to add a new entrance to the Waterloo and City line in the replacement development ("Walbrook Square"). This will be to the west of Walbrook (the street/river), and therefore quite some way to the west of the rest of Bank Station. So where will it fit in at platform level - are the cross passages really wide enough to have...

ELL alternative route by gw2486
I was reading through the weekly email of weekend engineering works today and clicked on the link for more information on the Aldgate area closure. Was very surprised to be advised (sorry for long URL - see page 5 of http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/emails/worksandclosures/District_A4_12_13JAN.pdf ) that if I want to get from Whitechapel to central London, the alternative route is ELL via Canada...

GOB Class 172s by Paul Scott
There is an article about the Class 172 orders in this month's Todays Railway UK. Apparently the 9 GOB units have been ordered, by the Angel Trains ROSCo, and apparently they are due for delivery in 2009 before the larger batch of 2 and 3 car units for GoVia West Midlands. I assume the significance of the Angel finance, rather than TfL purchase, is that they can be moved on to another TOC...

Megabus/trains getting off early?? by Dave
Have relatives in Guildford, and would like to visit more often. A cheap day return is £11.50. But looking at megabus.com I can get a train ticket for Portsmouth which stops at Guildford on the way. Is there anything stopping me from booking with megabus far in advance and getting the ticket for £2 return and using it to get to Guildford and back again? Also how would I explain it to the guide at...

St P.I..L.L Impressions. by Peter Lawrence
First impressions of the Thameslink platforms at St Pancras which opened on time this morning (after what must have been a massive tidy-up operation). Spacious platforms, clean and well lit but not inspiring and, as yet, minimal advertising. Signs and indicators matching the those rest of St.P.I. The train indicators do show intermediate stations (ref earlier comment here.) Seats only at...
