Tube train runaway 1992 ish? by lwt@nathanwhitington.co.uk
I seem to remember an incident in the early 90's (1992?) where a tube train had runaway due to the driver leaving his cab to see to a door interlock problem. I was young at the time and this is all I can remember, can anybody shed any light on the incident?

Met to Aldgate by tim.....
At about 19:30 on Friday (21st) I was waiting at Liverpool St for a Circle Line train and 4 out of 5 trains shown on the board (before mine) were Met trains to Aldgate (which presumably then had to turn around and travel back). I thought that the Aldgate bit only ran at rush hours and whilst I can see that a last train at about 20:00 is reasonably still inside the "travel home from the...

Victoria Line Construction by lwt@nathanwhitington.co.uk
I was reading a book about the Victoria Line (published 1988) whilst at work on Christmas day and was drawn to a particular line which described the line passing under an alleged plague pit. This had apparently caused some discomfort for the workers at the time. Having tried to follow this up on google I was somewhat unsuccessful in finding a reputable source to back this up. I wondered if...

Forest Gate/Wanstead Park interchange? by Tim Roll-Pickering
It's just been pointed out to me on Wikipedia that the National Rail Timetable (page 46) lists Forest Gate - Wanstead Park as a "useful transfer": http://www.networkrail.co.uk/browse%20documents/eNRT/Dec07/Commercial%20Information.pdf It's also reportedly in the Online Journey Planner. But this is the first I've heard of this and to my knowledge none of the brand new Overground line maps...

Autocar designs a new Routemaster by Mizter T
I found this story earlier on the BBC News website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7149722.stm Autocar magazine (somewhat bizarrely) asked bus design company Capoco Design (which designed the the Dennis Dart and Trident amongst others) to come up with a concept design for a new Routemaster-type bus. It's hardly a spectacularly original idea, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Dorking postbus stop by Jon
For anyone wishing to use the Dorking Post Bus service: the stop in Dorking is the best hidden I have yet encountered. The bus departs from the vehicle entrance to the Post Office (not, as the timetable suggests, from in the High St.outside the Post Office). To catch it, go to the Post Office and down the side road beside it until you come to a opening where PO vans go in. Wait there for...

Heathrow on Boxing Day? by Colin Rosenstiel
With no public transport and because I'm a kind father I'm going to have to drive my daughter from Cambridge to Heathrow on Boxing Day. Are they still going to try and rip me off rotten for stopping there that day as usual? -- Colin Rosenstiel

DLR Deterioration by MIG
Is something up with the DLR, eg maintenance being deferred or something? Speed seems to be so restricted over certain sections that I would think that the timetable must have to take into account extended journey times. Heading north, it stops half way from Lewisham to Elverson Road and then eventually trickles into the station. It goes at a crawl, with frequent braking, through to Greenwich,...

Shepherd's Bush Central Line station closure by thoss[_2_]
I have seen no publicity for the closure at short notice of this station for eight months from February 2nd: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/6871.aspx Should they not use this opportunity to build a pedestrian tunnel to the WLL station? -- Thoss

Who sets Day Travelcard fares from outside London? by Colin Rosenstiel
When I started working (part time) in London in 2001 an off-peak Day Travelcard from Cambridge cost just 60p more (with Network Card discount) than a cheap day return to London Terminals. I guess the difference without railcard discount was 90p. That differential has risen steadily. In 2007 the undiscounted cheap day return and off-peak Day Travelcard fares are £18 and £22.50 respectively, a...

Train describer provision by Walter Briscoe
This thread was prompted by contributions to the recent thread "Heathrow on Boxing Day?" I have recently been brave enough to venture outside zone 1 on London Underground. Some parts of the network such as Hammersmith & City - Paddington (I DO know PAD is in zone 1) to Hammersmith have no train describer boards but PA is regularly used to give customers some idea of waiting times. Other...

Corporate Moving Relocation Service. by linkswanted
Corporate Moving Relocation Service. Whenever one thinks of relocating to a newer place, he or she experiences a happy yet uncomfortable feeling.
