Ebbsfleet as capital of UK by Offramp
Ebbsfleet, what with its football team and its railway station, is in the news more often than London these days. I wonder what it's like? I bet it's a dump. If it's not too bad I might move there. Perhaps it'll soon become the capital of the United Kingdom. That would be cool.

Walthamstow Central by Paul Corfield
Walthamstow Central tube is closed this Saturday and the Vic line is closed Sunday. Having pondered the reason why I asked this evening as to whether the subway link was due to open. The worksite looks perilously close to "break through" of the final bits of the wall. I was told the new ticket office will be opening on Monday morning - this certainly has a number of LU ticket machines in it as...

Saab Turbo Update Car by nico
The limited-edition Turbo X cars will be styled to resemble the original Black Turbos. That means pumping up the testosterone and returning to Saab design cues that some modern offerings have lacked. Related Topics 2008 Saab Turbo X http://www.zone-car.com/?2008-saab-turbo-x.php

I Thought the Buses were Wheelchair Accessible... by Helen Deborah Vecht
Sunday was COLD and very wet. After waiting over 10 minutes at a bus stop close to home, the 302 driver (Metroline) tells me there is no ramp on the bus. As we are freezing and I can do a few steps, I climb onto the bus. On our return, we opt to take the 32 (Metroline again) north from Kilburn as there was no Jubilee Line beyond Wembley Park. I sat in the chair waiting for the bus. When it...

The Night Journey And The Ascent To Heaven One night as the Prophet (pbuh) lay sleeping in the same spot where 'Abd al-Muttalib used to sleep, next to the Ka'bah, he was woken by the Archangel Gabriel. Later the Prophet (pbuh) described what happened: 'I sat up and he took hold of my arm. I stood beside him and he brought me to the door of the mosque where there was a white animal for me to...

The Year of Sorrow The Prophet (pbuh) and his followers went back to a normal way of life but the years of hardship had made Khadijah very weak. She became ill and soon afterwards she died. Thus, the Prophet (pbuh) lost his beloved wife and friend, the first person to accept Islam and support him. She had been a refuge from all his troubles and, through her good-heartedness, the best company in...

Best tickets for Cambridge-Tolworth via Putney? by Colin Rosenstiel
I have a 9 am start in Tolworth on Friday. Given the price of a Peak Travelcard from Cambridge and so I don't have to get up so early, staying in Putney at my mother's seems the best. But ticketing seems confused. I have a choice of a Saver Return to King's Cross at £16.50 (with Network Card discount) plus £1.50 Oyster (after 19:00) or £19.15 for a Saver to Zones 1 & 2 which would get me to East...

Eurostar's south London farewell by Mizter T
Today is the last day of Eurostar trains traversing the tracks of south London heading for Waterloo, as tomorrow they'll switch to using the new, boring route through the new CTRL tunnels underneath east London (apols for rolling that pun out for the hundredth time). I felt a little ode to their passing - or indeed imminent lack of passing - was in order. The new route will no longer afford...

London Underground Public Toilets by Walter Briscoe
This was prompted by my response to Paul Corfield on Walthamstow Central. I thought it better to start another thread. I have a paper copy of "Getting around London Your guide to accessibility" which can also be found at www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/Getting_around_London.pdf. It does not seem to have been mentioned before at utl. I have not found the following applies: "Almost all...

Then she admitted, 'Yes, we are Muslims and we believe in Allah and His Messenger and you can do what you like!' Seeing her faith and courage, 'Umar suddenly felt sorry for what he had done and said to his sister, 'Let me see what I heard you reading just now so that I may understand just what it is that your Prophet has brought. Fatimah gave the scroll to him after he had washed to make himself...

Who is responsible for Wembley Central by Zen83237
Do I take it that London Overground are responsible for the entire station including platforms 5 & 6. Southern say not them, I assume that it isn't London Midland as none ot their trains stop there. So the lack of Oyster readers on 5 & 6 is down to TfL. Kevin

Shepherd's Bush WLL by James Farrar
The new issue of Private Eye, out today, has the following interesting section on the much-delayed Shepherd's Bush WLL station: --- At the heart of the new £1.6bn mega-development in London, just north of Shepherd's Bush, there is to be a new railway station on the West London line. It is a key part of the plan to ensure good public access to the 300 shops, 14-screen cinema and all the rest of...

Times: Ken plans to take public control of rail services by Ernst S Blofeld
"Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, is preparing to submit a bid next year to take over most of Southern, one of the biggest train franchises, from 2009. He is also drawing up plans to take control of all commuter trains that terminate in the capital, including those that start their journeys well beyond Greater...

THIS IS MOHAMMED 13 by msk2000
The Meccans were furious when they discovered that these Muslims had secretly left the city for among them were the sons and daughters of many of the leading families of Mecca. The anger of the Meccans was even greater when they found out that the Muslims had been warmly welcomed in Abyssinia. The leaders of Quraysh decided to send two men to the Abyssinian king in hopes of persuading him to send...

Allah has ordered me to call you to Him. So which of you will help me?' All the men kept silent. Then 'Ali, his cousin, jumped up and said: 'O Prophet of Allah! I will help you.' Then the men all got up and left, laughing as they went because only one young boy had agreed to help the Prophet (pbuh). His message ignored by most of the people and his uncles, the Prophet (pbuh) continued to meet...
