Bye bye NLL (to woolwich) by thagor2008@googlemail.com
I was down at the motor show today at excel. I notice the old NLL is slowly being taken apart. The track has been lifted at canning town (and half the station is gone) and is in the process of being lifted at prince regent just before the slope to the tunnel. Anyone who wants any final piccies should head off there now before its all gone. B2003

air conditioned buses by Stuart
The new buses on the 102 route appear to be air conditioned, but it is totally useless as all of the windows open. The unit on the bus I've just been on (today being the hottest day of the year) looks like it had given up as there was water pouring out of a unit on the ceiling every time we turned a corner!

Can I punch a hole in my Oyster Card? by Tristan Miller
Greetings. I have a retractable keychain I wear on my belt. I find it useful to have my Oyster Card on this as I don't have to fumble for it in my pockets whenever I board a bus or enter a Tube station; the card is always hanging from my hip, within easy reach of the Card readers. Until now I've been putting my Oyster Card in the official plastic wallet and punching a hole through that to put...

Marylebone barrier line gates by Jack Taylor
Does anyone else have problems with the barriers to/from the mainline platforms at Marylebone? On at least one morning every week my Gold Card is rejected with a 'Seek Assistance' message (which is easily resolved by putting through the wide-aisle gate to revalidate it). This is not peculiar to my current Gold Card as it happened with my previous ticket and with the replacement that was...

Tube Booze Ban - is it working? by Frank Incense
Not even two months in and from my eyes it seems that people ARE actually sticking to it. Or am I wrong? Probably only seen 1 empty can on the tube since it started. This is in complete contrast to the Smoking ban which is openly flouted and has been in around 20 odd years.

Oyster Card System Failure by dB
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7524754.stm The Oyster system used on London's transport network has broken down two weeks after another fault left 40,000 customers with corrupted cards. The latest problem has affected pay as you go Oystercards on the Tube network. Barriers are being kept open at all stations until the problem has been rectified, Transport for London (TfL) has...

Petition to stop overcrowding on public transport by Jonathan[_2_]
Public transport has always been awful; and over the past couple of years I've noticed that more and more often I'm squashed inside a bus or train, with hardly enough room to breathe, because the company decided to cancel earlier buses or trains without notice, and without making any alternative arrangements. Because I believe that this gross-overcrowding is a serious risk to public health...

BBC4 by John Rowland
Most of the programmes on BBC4 on Saturday night are about the London cab and cabbie, but one of them may have wider interest: "The Flipside Of Dominick Hyde" is a 1980 play about "a time traveller from 2130 studying the London Transport system".

OT: I am rung by the tides by John Rowland

Beneath the bells are poles attached to sluice gates. Does the bell...

Amusing story by Mait001@aol.com
The 6-year-old son of my vicar in Fulham is a bit of a transport whizzkid (he's learnt to read by memorising the entire Underground map!) and is well on the way to memorsing the entire London bus map. He was recently asked to write about a family trip at the weekend. His sentence "we took the Overground from Kew" was wrongly corrected by his teacher to "Underground"! Silly teacher!

Man electrocuted after urinating on track by cosmo.johnson@googlemail.com
http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article.html?in_article_id=229490&in_page_id=2 ISTR an episode of "Mythbusters" that suggested this wasn't possible (the stream would probably stops being a continuous one by the time it hit the live rail and thus wouldn't be able to conduct), although given the reports say he "walked onto the track" perhaps he accidentally made contact with the electrified line...

Weekend LU trainboard PA notes engineering by Walter Briscoe
In the recent past, I have complained when trainboard PA advertises interchanges that do not exist - mainly due to engineering closures. While travelling this weekend, 2 District trains reported absence of Jubilee and Victoria lines at Westminster and Victoria, a southbound Northern line train reported the Jubilee missing at Moorgate and a Circle line reported the Victoria outage at Kings...

More Oyster ripoffs by thagor2008@googlemail.com
I had to take the tube to our london office today. Went down onto the platform. 1 minute later I realised I'd left something at home and went out again. Luckily I always check the gates and noticed it had deducted a quid! So much for the 15 min grace period mentioned on here by others. The lady in the ticket office was nice enough to put it back on the card but how many other people have been...
