Paddington signs by Clive D. W. Feather[_2_]
Now that the extended Circle Line has bedded in, have signs at Paddington main line station changed? In particular, is it made clear to passengers that those wanting King's Cross or Liverpool Street should go to platforms 15 & 16 while those wanting Victoria should head for the Lawn entrance? -- Clive D.W. Oyster PAYG Fit? by Q
On behalf of someone else; 'why did it cost me 80p to get to work, but 60p to get back? And it seems to cost me different amounts to get to Brockley too (none of these are peak journeys neither)' and from earlier in the week; 'Just paid 35p for a tube from redbridge to mile end. And the 277 bus was free.'

Cameron: Borisport not on the agenda by Mizter T
Dave ain't interested in Borisport, aka Boris Island - "It's not our policy." http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8476222.stm ---quote--- He added: "Boris is a great mayor of London doing an excellent job, but building airports is not his responsibility." But in a statement on Friday, Mr Johnson's office said it was sure the airport would not be out of the question.

Oyster Top-up Queries by John Salmon[_4_]
I've only recently started using Oyster PAYG on a semi-regular basis. I topped up on Tuesday using the FCC ticket machine next to the ticket office at St Pancras International. I have a couple of queries: (1) The top-up location on my journey history is shown as "Bus". Why would that be? (2) I noticed that the machine showed that the Oyster card was loaded with a Zones 1-4 Weekly...

How do you spell Haringey? by Graham Harrison[_2_]
The local council uses Haringey - http://www.haringey.gov.uk/ but the railways use Harringay and I've just used (probably wrongly) Haringay.

Fox Under A Train by Paul
From the Tfl website at lunchtime today:- Northern Line Minor delays are occurring between Camden Town and Kennington via Charing Cross due to a fox on the track at Warren Street. How could a fox get on to the sub surface section of the track? Any more unusual excuses for delays?

Radio 4 - the derailing of transport 2010 by plcd1
Article here on BBC website http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8465383.stm and programme on Radio 4 this evening at 2000. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00pxk9w All about why Mr Prescott's 10 year transport plan didn't happen. Might be worth a listen.

Street Repairs by Phil Richards
Who is responsible for repairs in London, the local council or TfL? Since the snow has thawed a small pothole outside my house has got much bigger. TfL's site allowed me to report the problem which I did. I then happened to visit Haringey's website to report a huge pile of rubbish dumped a bit further down the road. They seemed to be quite keen to take details of the problem with a special...

Oyster PAYG & Virgin by Matthew Dickinson
I see that validators have at last been fixed at the entrances to the platforms at Euston that previously lacked them (platforms 1-3, 4-7 & 12-15). I wonder whether Virgin will accept PAYG when they run special timetables that include set down stops at Watford Junction? The EMT gateline at St Pancras International has also been upgraded to Oyster (presumably for Thameslink diversions.)

How does one pronounce Isledon Road? by Basil Jet
I always assumed that it was either Eye-zl-dn or Eye-yl-dn, but apparently Isledon was the old name for Islington. This makes me think it must be Iz-ler-dn, since that's the only pronunciation which could conceivably drift into Islington. -- We are the Strasbourg. Referendum is futile.

Oyster Extension Permits (OEPs) by Mudchute[_2_]
I have a Zone 1 and 2 Travelcard on my Oyster and wanted to travel from Charing Cross to Catford Bridge this Saturday evening and was hoping to be able to put an Oyster Extension Permit on at one of the ticket machines at Charing Cross but this option wasn't available. I did manage to top up my PAYG balance though. I decided then to go to the ticket office and (surprise, surprise) nobody in the...

The London Underground and its South African connection by CJB
The veritable maze that is the London Underground owes its existence, at least in part, to a brilliant railway-engineer named James Henry Greathead, born in Grahamstown, South Africa, on 6 August 1844. http://london.thesouthafrican.com/living/The-London-Underground-and-its-South-African-connection

It beggars belief by boltar2003@boltar.world
Went by tube to work again this morning thanks to the council not bothering to grit roads near me. Trains backing up from arnos grove and more stalled going towards raynors lane. All due to "the severe weather" according to the driver. Yeah -1C and 2cm of snow, thats almost antarctic isn't it. I'm surprised we arn't building igloos on the platform and breaking out the survival rations. Then...

Oyster PAYG gateline experiment by Sky Rider
Earlier today I did some PAYG experiments. In this post, 'travelling' is defined as time spent in the 'paid' side of station facilities as well as the train/tube. I travelled from Liverpool Street 'NR' to Romford, then 23 minutes later I travelled back. I wanted to see if I would be charged for two short journeys or one longer journey, in this case it was the former that happened (in...

First class and oyster cards by trainmanUK
What is the situaiton with first class and oyster PAYG. Can it be valid in First? Can you get a first class oyster PAYG ? I suspect the answer is no so if you want to go first class in the zones you will still need a ticket.

Silly DLR Question by Tim Fardell
Are there direct DLR services from Stratford to Lewisham, or will I need to change? Sorry if this is a silly question, but I can't find a definitive answer anywhere. (Also can anyone advise how long that trip would be likely to take?) Thanks.

London Railway Atlas by MaxB
Provided by Father Christmas (it was on my stocking list), this is an amazing compilation of railway layouts past and present (and some future) around London. I am going through the areas I know to pick up the inevitable errors but it still seems an heroic effort to me. I'd never heard of Commercial Dock station : anyone know where it was? MaxB
