What a ripoff. by
boltar2003@boltar.world
Had to get the tube to work today for obvious reasons. Nice to see a 2.80
fare has gone up to 3.10. And for that extra 30p I get a 15 minute delay
on the central line due to some signal failure or other. Oh what a surprise.
Pathetic bloody system.

Harringay Green Fingers by

News of London Overground's first community growing project at
Harringay Green Lanes:

Hopefully whatever they're planting will be able to withstand the
diesel fumes!
Any other stations which have a bit of land that could be put to such
good use?

District Line is crap by
Mait001@aol.com
Just why is the District Line run so badly?
I rarely use it nowadays, thank God, but had the misfortune to use it
this morning (11th Janaury 2010), beginning my journey at Fulham
Broadway at 7.15a.m.
Firstly, the indicator boards at Fulham Broadway indicated that the
first train would be a "City" train, arriving in 2 minutes. Indeed,
the train did arrive in 2 minutes but it was an Edgware Road...

Mayor's transport strategy by

I've not seen much discussion of this:

it seems to be an uncosted wish-list, so how anyone is supposed to make
an informed choice I don't know...

No Trousers? by
Graham Harrison[_2_]
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/01/10/BA3B1BGBBR.DTL
is a story about how a "performance art" group rode BART in San Francisco
without their trousers yesterday (Sunday). It goes on to say:
"On Sunday, subway riders in 44 cities around the world stripped off their
pants in the name of silliness."
Was London one of the 44?

1983 Stock at Uxbridge by
MIG
I just happened to be looking at Uxbridge on Google Maps and, as you
do, zoomed in to see what had been parked in the sidings.
I thought there were three Metropolitans and a Piccadilly (from
length) till I looked closer and realised that what I thought was
Piccadilly was, in fact, a train of 1983 stock.
I don't know when the photo was taken, but I wonder if it's the one
that Wikipedia says was...

Pre Pay Oyster or annual travelcard? by
Sunil Sood
Does anyone know of a website which is able to calculate whether using
PAYG Oyster or an annual Travelcard is better value for an individual?
I think I've used http://www.prepayortravelcard.com/ in the past but
it doesn't seem to be fully updated for 2010 yet and my local
Underground station doesn't yet have any 2010 fare booklets..

Large cavern under Embankment by
boltar2003@boltar.world
Anyone else heard about this huge former LU substation under embankment?
http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/sites/e/embankment_station/index.shtml
Quite an impressive space. I'm surprised its not used for anything. In real
estate terms it must be worth a fortune.

OEPs available from DLR? by
Tim Roll-Pickering
Today I was at Langdon Park and had a go at trying to set an OEP on my
Oystercard. But no luck - the machines don't seem to offer them. (They do,
however, seem to sell paper extension tickets.) Are they available under
another name or is TfL not providing these things either?!

Snow disruption Cambridge/London by
Brian Watson[_2_]
My daughter and I have tickets for a theatre show in London this evening
(Wednesday) and want to travel up 'n back by train.
At the moment, the theatre's website is saying "the show will go on, but
watch this website for updates"
Is London enduring a snowy apocalypse or are we in with a reasonable chance
of making the journey ok by rail?
My plan B: is to go all the way by car if the M11 is...

Cannot get Railcard discount loaded on to Oyster by
Clive Page[_3_]
According to TfL, it should be possible to get certain National
Railcards (such as a Senior Railcard) loaded on to an Oyster card so
that a lower daily price cap applies.
My wife and I both managed this last year, but our Senior Railcards
expired and we had to renew, so we have just realised that we need to
renew the loading of the Railcard on to our respective Oyster cards.
The problem is...

Tunnel affects by
Basil Jet
The Rotherhithe Tunnel is closed for 7 hours every Monday night for routine
maintenance. The Blackwall Northbound tunnel is closed every Sunday a.m.,
with the southbound tunnel carrying northbound traffic only at that time
(mostly). Why do these two tunnels need maintenance and the Blackwall
Southbound doesn't? I am not aware of any bridge having this sort of
maintenance schedule, so I'm...

Rights of successors to British Transport Commission by
Desmo Paul
Does anyone know about the British Transport Commission Act 1949? I
am told that it prevents anyone obtaining an easement over land owned
by the BTC or their successors. The Land Registry says "Since the
passing of the British Transport Commission Act 1949, it has not
been possible to acquire a right of way by prescription over land
owned by the
commission and forming an access or approach to,...
