Oyster PAYG to Shenfield & Cheshunt by
Matthew Dickinson
TfL plan to extend Oyster Pay As You Go acceptance to Shenfield &
Cheshunt when the Greater Anglia franchise is renewed.
See page 7 of http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/corporate/Item08-LR-MD-Report-RUP-12-05-2010.pdf
Shenfield fits in well with Crossrail, but the Hertford East branch
would be an annoying omission if FCC acceptance eventually extends to
its inner suburban boundary at...

ELL Train Reporting Numbers by
Jack Taylor
Does anyone know of a source that shows train reporting numbers for the
current ELL timetable? The journeyplanners that do include reporting numbers
("headcodes") don't seem to have been updated to include the present
pre-launch services - they still recommend Dalston Junction to New Cross
Gate by bus!

May Modern Raiways, Map of London's Railways by
E27002
So, yesterday evening I went to my PMB, and there among the pile of
assorted mail was Modern Railways, May edition. It was crinkled in a
way of only the international postal services can achieve.
Once home I was delighted to find the enclosed, detailed, map of
London's railway infrastructure. But, why did Ian Allan have to
staple in to the magazine? It was awkward to remove, and like...

Stopping Getting Tail-Gated on Underground / NR by
SB
How is it possible to stop getting tail-gated by dishonest commuters,
down and outs, and other opportunists? Usually I hesitate just after
passing through the gates of a gateline. But invariably some oik -
usually male - rushes past the open gates pretending to use the Oyster
scan - and then deliberately pushes into me or pushes me out of the
way. Once I stopped esrly and caught one and he got...

Speak of the Devil by
hounslow3@yahoo.co.uk
It appears as though the London Underground is planning to run the Sarah
Siddons locomotive on the Metropolitan Line on Sunday, 16 May.
Details can be found on London Transport Museum's Website.
How often do they run the Sarah Siddons, I wonder? Are there any other
plans to run other vintage stock besides that and the 38TS?
How about the Glasgow Subway? Do they ever run rolling stock...

Old Poster Alert by
CJB
Folks with digital camers might be interested to visit the end of ex-
Thameslink / FCC platforms 5/6 at Moorgate. They have uncovered three
old posters there from 1981, including one depicting a very young
Jimmy Saville!! Also there is a complete 1981 timetable for the Met
incl. to/from Watford (via Croxley), Aylesbury(?), etc. CJB.

Announcement due at 2:30pm. Presumably this will help Boris do what he
wants, although a Tory majority would have been better for him.

He was apparently on good form - but that was before news that the

Waterloo Eurostar platforms and "The Railway Children" by
Mait001@aol.com
Now, I don't want to be a killjoy, and the thought of the wonderful
story "The Railway Children" being recreated with a real steam engine
in central London fills me with joy (I only heard about it today) and
will certainly wish to see this spectacle at Waterloo Station. But, is
it right that one of London's busiest and most overcrowded stations,
where trains are regularly held up on entering and...

New Central Line platform at Stratford by
Martin Petrov[_2_]
Anybody got any idea when it's likely to open?
It all *looks* raring to go (the signs are up, all paved nicely, the new
stairs and lift are open on the other side to increase capacity - the
only thing that seems to be not ready is that the glass between the exits
to the platform and the mezzanine (sp? usage?) is completely intact, so
you can't get through to it.
Am I to guess from this that...

New East London Line report by

At last!
Bit late to the party, i know, but i went on it. It was very new, not very
busy, the trains were very quiet, and Dalston Junction station is HUGE.
Why is it so huge? And what are the plans for Shoreditch High Street (or
as i like to call it, Directly Opposite My Office On Commercial Street) -
will the views to the arches and pillars and other quite nice old bits of
railway...

Why is there always an accident at Clacket Lane on M25? by
boltar2003@boltar.world
On the radio yet again this morning - an accident at Clacket Lane services.
Is there something particularly bad about the way the exits roads to this
service station have been designed? I've driven that part of the M25 more times
than is probably good for me but I haven't noticed anything unusual that
would give rise to so many accidents but clearly something is confusing some
motorists. Does...

London Bridge interchange by
Sir Benjamin Nunn
Does anybody know why - given that both Jubilee Line platforms were of
completely new build, and one of the Northern Line platforms was laterally
resited - the interchange was not made more convenient and accessible.
I've struggled to make the change every day for the last few weeks, walking
on crutches, and there must be about 70-80 stairs to traverse. Why?!?
