Later this year Eurostar is moving from Waterloo to St Panc is there a
new bridge being built across the Thames to accommodate it or is there
some existing line that goes across the river now but is not used.
I only ask because up now I have never seen any services advertised
from Watford and...

Letchworth where ? by
Edward Cowling London UK
On the Northbound Great Northern Electric out of Moorgate we always had
trains to Welwyn Garden City, Letchworth and Hertford North.
Then all of a sudden we started getting trains to Letchworth Garden
City. Where is this idyllic home of the Gods ? :-)
First of all I thought it was screwed up announcement board, but the
station announcers all talk about trains to this suburban shangri...

New wide red line for bus stops by
Mizter T
I saw this yesterday - TfL has introduced a new wide red line at the
bus stop on Wilton Rd outside Victoria station, which indicates that
taxis and Blue Badge holders - who normally have an exemption from the
no stopping rule - are not allowed to stop anywhere along the wide red
line.
The TfL press release explains...

Marble Arch Demo? Sunday by
Albert
Does anyone know what was causing the chaos from Grosvenor Place all the way
up Park Lane to Marble Arch yesterday afternoon.
Seemed as if it might have been some kind of demo.
But then maybe not??

Victoria Line Tunnels at Kings Cross by
SimonD
I was standing half way along the southbound Victoria Line platform at
Kings Cross, when I happened to look up through the vents in the
roof. Through them, I could see daylight, coming in through what
appears to be another tunnel running more or less parallel to the
Victoria Line.
I've used this platform many times, but have never noticed this other
tunnel before. Is it new (in some way...

Golders Green by
John Rowland
At the *exit* of the bus station is a set of traffic lights. There are your
normal three-colour jobbies facing up and down North End Road and into the
bus station. There are also single red lights either side of the exit,
facing *out* of the bus station. They don't seem to light up, and there's no
reason why they would, since no vehicle would ever see them. Does anyone
know why they are...

Slightly OT - free news servers by
Andrea
I'm due to switch ISP soon (to Sky Broadband, who I don't think have
news servers), and so would appreciate any guidance as to any other
free news servers online (which I can use with Outlook Express). I
used to use news.cis.dfn.de/news.individual.net, but I think they
charge an annual fee now.
I don't really want to use the Google Groups interface to read
messages from this group.
Any help...

Dot Matrix Displays at Turnpike Lane by
Phil Richards
Some weeks back I asked LUL via the TfL website why the dot matrix
indicators on the Westbound platform at Turnpike Lane can only display
details of the next train within one minute of it arriving. I got the
following reply back today:
"We recognise that the provision of real-time information at Turnpike
Lane station via the dot matrix information screens could be better. The
reason for the...

Thameslink by
peter
I will be travelling from London (Kings Cross Thames link) (KCM) to Brighton
on a Saver return (£24). (I am aware of the alternatives via London
Victoria, but will be arriving at Kings Cross from the North so thought that
would be easier.) I will be returning to London a couple of days later, but
need to get to Waterloo (to catch the Eurostar). My question is will my
return ticket to (KCM)...

What's happening at South Ken? by
Recliner
I passed through South Ken (District Line) today and noticed a large
number of yellow construction machines placed in the empty space on the
southern side of the sub-surface station. They didn't seem to be doing
anything, and there was no sign of any imminent work. Are they simply
being stored there, or is a project due to start there soon? I didn't
think that any major station...

Arsenal Platform Pillars by
Stuart
After months of refurbishment of Arsenal tube station including a
re-tile of the platforms, they've now built concrete black pillars
either side of each cross passage.
Anyone know why? They certainly look like an after-thought (surely
they'd have built them before tiling?)

DEcongestion zone map by
Andrew
Motorists who feel aggrieved by the extension of the London charging
zone have some positive assistance this week with the launch of a new
easy-to-read bus map for London.
Really it's a DEcongestion zone, freeing up the city for walking,
faster buses, and just better breathing all round.
Quickmap's new London by Bus map makes sense of decongestion, helps
Londoners survive tube closures and...

Which car for a quick exit? by
Bob Wood
I am aware that there is a book which suggests which tube car you should
use for a quick exit from stations - but does this information appear
on-line anywhere?
If not, could anybody tell me where I should alight for a quick exit at
each of the following stations:
Southbound Kings Cross (Northern Line) for transfer to the southbound
Piccadilly.

Woo Woo! by
elyob
Any idea why, over the last few days, the trains have been blowing their
horns a lot more? I've lived near Surbiton Station for a few years, but have
no idea why I've noticed this. At times it sounds like there's a train sat
at the station just blowing its horn!
Is it a general rule to blow your horn at every station or just Surbiton?
