Goods And Coal Depot, E16 by John Rowland
Verbena Close, E16, has a gantry over its entrance which reads "Goods And Coal Depot". I think the site originally covered the area now occupied by Verbena Close as well as the area covered by Cranberry Lane and its sideroads. But I'm baffled about why the site is at right angles to the North London Line, or how a rail connection to the North London Line would have crossed Manor Rd. A...

Stansted to Eurostar - routeing query by Sam
Hi all, I'm looking to make a journey from Stansted airport to the Eurostar terminal at St Pancras on a Sunday in a few weeks' time. The standard route seems to be train to Liverpool St, then Underground to KXSP. But is it permitted with this ticket to take the train only as far as Tottenham Hale, then the Victoria to KXSP? This seems that it'd be rather quicker.

Battersea Bridge Road by Edward Cowling London UK
I've got to get to that void in the London Transport system called Battersea tomorrow. I'm travelling in from North London, so I can grab the Piccadilly or Victoria lines, but no tube stations seem within miles of it. Is there a decent bus connection with any tube station ? I need to get to Battersea Bridge Road in SW11 --

Oyster on 23 February by Helen Deborah Vecht
I've just looked at the Journey History for the Oyster card my partner uses. He went to Milton Keynes via Euston on 23 February, returning the same day. His morning outward journeys (bus & Tube) are given correctly. The evening return is totally absent. Next use of the card suggests £5.50 in total was deducted for that day, which should have been capped at £5.40 (Zones 1-4 Off-Peak). I'm not...

oyster overdraft? by MarkVarley - MVP
I vaguely recall reading somewhere about PAYG oyster cards not freaking out if you overspend, like an overdraft kind of setup, is my shakey memory correct? Cashflow is a bit tight right now and our oysters usually auto-topup weekly with £20, the last one failed but I've just been able to clear it however it's quite possible some future ones will fail until we get back on track (no pun...

platform monitors at paddington (bakerloo southbound) by MarkVarley - MVP
after a train journey from hell itself last night we were awaiting an underground train at paddington, bakerloo line, southbound platform). I'm pretty sure I saw a bank of monitors (which I've seen before and assume they are for the drivers to monitor platform activity while sitting in the station), but at both ends. Admittedly I was pretty tired and we were around the middle of the platform but...

Do drivers get pleasure from closing the doors and preventing people from getting on?....I think the answer is yes. I reckon they time it perfectly.

Manchester 323's swapped for what by Mwmbwls
RAIL magazine 585 reported that Manchester's 323's are to be transferred to Birmingham. It reported the DfT as saying Northern can expect vehicles from London Midlands Birmingham operations and from London Overground - likely to be class 150s although DfT doesn't say" I can understand the logic of unifying the 353 fleet - but more 150s from the south. Is it intended to turn off the OHLE to...

Cross River Tram by Tristán White
Received in my letter box this morning some pamphlet from Boris Johnson called "The Greater Londoner" which almost immediately went into the recycling bin, but one thing crossed my mind, a piece that said that en has squandered our money on ill-thought-out schemes, such as £11.6m alreadt spent on the Cross River Tram project, which has "now been shelved". Well that's news to me. Yes, I'll...

Underground - London's Hidden Infrastructure Exhibition at theBuilding Centre by Mwmbwls
An interesting review from Museum buff Frankie Roberto who in his youth used to badger his parents to take him to museums - so he is no doubt familiar with all the best tube connections. (Linking museums to the tube could be the basis of an interesting tube map). http://www.greatexhibitions.co.uk/blog/underground-londons-hidden-infrastructure-the-building-centre/ quote Underground:...
