In Iceland, the “son� or “dottir� name isn’t a surname, it’s a patronymic.
It doesn’t follow down the generations like surnames do.

So the son of Magnus Sveinnson could be Óðinn Magnusson and his daughter
SigrÃ*ður Magnusdottir.
