Default C-charge monitoring shows sustained traffic improvements

The fourth Annual Monitoring Report for the congestion charging scheme has shown a sustained reduction in traffic, air pollution and accidents and improvement in bus services. Highlights a
ulliCongestion levels in 2005 were 22% below pre-charge (2002) levels./liliMost harmful emissions 13-15% lower/liliCycle trips up 43%/liliUp to 70 fewer annual personal injuries from road accidents/li/ul
The report also found that retail footfall outperformed other UK cities and had returned to a pattern of year-on-year growth; there was no identifiable effect on the number of businesses closing down or starting up; and no effect was noted on property prices.
