Dorridge, rather than Solihull, perhaps? But for such a big project
there wouldn't be much gain, would there? And even some losses,
like the
car park at Acocks Green, which, as it currently stands is most
definitely a Good Thing, as there's no obvious place to put a car
park
nearby without knocking down a fair few houses.

How about above the railway (aerial rights type project)?

I was going from memory about the site. Actually there is an obvious
place to put a car park, now that I have looked on Google Earth,
especially as the current car park has a back way in that I didn't
know
about, so no houses need be knocked down, even if some off-railway
land
would need to be purchased.

Looking at the Google Earth picture, some might feel that it doesn't
really support my contention about the car park. Maybe the picture was
taken on a Sunday...

INteresting idea, but surely the real buster here are the tunnels
under Lord#'s Cricket ground - they need to be widened to 4 tracks to
cope with congestion.....and ghow much would that cost, if indeed it
is possible?

There WAS capacity for seven tracks under Lords Cricket Ground, in
three tunnels. *I am not sure how much of that capacity is still in
railway ownership, or practically usable.

I did ask about that at one time - possibly on District Dave's - yes the
tunnels are there, but access from north and south AIUI would be indeed no
small beer - and all that to get into a cramped, short London Terminal.
Probably a lot cheaper to link High Wycombe andAmershamlines to the NLL
thence to Euston, the HS1 and Stratford.

Also, at least one of the tunnels is leased out, and utilized for
other purposes. Moreover, I was merely answer the poster's question.
I am not sure that use of the tunnels is a solution to much of
anything.

IMHO, the Aylesbury route could, conveniently, be routed into Euston
by way of a new connection, to the slower AC pair, close to Northwick
Park. Likewise the High Wycombe route could be linked to WCML, and
into Euston, in the Old Oak Common area.

Of course there used to be another route through Birmingham. ex GWR
Unfortunately it is now a metro line. Maybe if that were rerouted
onto the street as a tram the formation could then be used for
mainline trains

Not sure how this would resolve London terminal capacity, but yes ....
wouldn't it be nice if the Genuinely Wider Railway could be restored.

There is already a lot of congestion on the Birmingham/Holyhead/Soho
Rd/Constitution Hill, and Wolverhampton Low Level Station has
unfortunately been allowed to go to blazes.
