Having watched far too much Russian Car Crash footage, (Having YouTube
on TV is nice, but....), pedestrians seem to look at the carnage &,
usually, keep on walking.

I would do exactly the same thing as it seems to be the UK police's
policy to detain everyone in sight of such an incident. I'd also take
steps to prevent myself being identified in CCTV by not turning around.

In the UK too, even when you are hit by a bus, you carry on walking into the pub ....
