The bulk of the work on the totally rebuilt London Bridge station is
now complete, though work on the all-important retail units continues,
both in the arcade that connects the station concourse and the Tube
station, and under the brick viaduct to the west of the station. The
Thameslink platforms and track are complete, but TL trains are not yet
serving the station, so their platforms are not currently in use.

The spacious, all-new station reopened on Tuesday the 2nd, and I went
along the next day to take some pictures:

This was the first mainline railway terminus in London, but not a
trace of the original stations remain, as it has been rebuilt from the
ground up. It is now airy, spacious and vast, but as with many new
stations, has few seats.

Apart from Spa Road of course.

Destroying all the historic side is hardly something to be proud of. This
got bulldozed too despite protests:

An act of barbaric historic vandalism just to no doubt save the developers a
few quid. The current London bridge is typical 21st century regional university
sports hall design bland and will look as tired and dated in 30 years time as
most 80s buildings do now.

I think the arcade is more interesting and unusual, with its sequence of
brick and up-lit textured concrete arches. It's currently rather austere
and pure, but that will change when the retail units open.

Concrete should be illegal to display in public, unless it's Snowcrete.
