For those interested I have put some pictures of the 1938 stock at

Excellent.

Is it just me, or does the 1938 stock look surprisingly not
old-fashioned?

I don't believe any were preserved Matthew, which is a real shame.

Two motor coaches, 2758 and 2749, were converted during 1961 into a
double-unit sleet locomotive and were numbered ESL118A and ESL 119B and were
based at Neasden. I imagine they've long since been withdrawn but I don't
know for sure. Perhaps one of the 'Underground' readers of the newsgroup
might be able to help.

ESL118A and ESL119B did survive - they can now be found at the Spa Valley
Railway, Tunbridge Wells

It my be the 1930s styling, or the fact that underground trains just
look better red, but it did not look out of place in 2004

Thanks Russell, I've seen the book in question on Ebay, but have always
lost out in the bidding!

Sorry about the picture quality, the negatives are deteriorating rapidly.

From the outside it doesn't look too old but step inside and its
definately a trip back in time. And none the worse for it either IMO.
The interior designers of the new tube stocks could have learnt a
thing or to about subtlety from these old trains.

Also on the page (top photo) is a picture I have been sent of Amersham
in 1961. Can anyone confirm what type of train is in the picture? Am I
right in assuming it was T stock?
Many thanks
Matthew

T stock was a favourite of mine and I have collected quite a few photos
(many from the Models of Hull Collection) including scans from magazines
such as Railway Bylines. Unfortunately I still haven't discovered how to use
my Wanadoo webspace so can't put them on show but if anybody is sufficiently
interested I'll gladly send copies.
Cheerz,
Baz
