What's that? Have they introduced canned music at Hammersmith Bus Station?

Yes, about three years ago (and in certain other bus stations). Playing
classical music has apparently proved quite successful in reducing
vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

I did wonder the other day whether it would be feasible, at busy outside
stops, to install heaters like those ones they use in pub gardens. It
might have a small added benefit of safety in numbers and slightly
faster journeys by attracting people to a particular bus stop rather
than spreading along consecutive bus stops. (Does that make any sense?)

Trouble is, it would attrach some of the less desirable elements to keep
warm at the bus shelter whilst they say "Can you spare 20p" or "Give us your
wallet, PIN, mobile and trainers" or "Want some business luv?"

;-)

Hmm, I didn't think of that... especially at King's Cross...

Thanks - very interesting. I think a lot of 7/11 shops do it as well don't
they.

Using words well is a social virtue. Use 'fortuitous' once more to
mean 'fortunate' and you move an English word another step towards
the dustbin. If your mistake took hold, no one who valued clarity
would be able to use the word again.
