Hi gang,

Waterloo) was withdrawn over the weekend (last trips ran on Friday

May).

The latest issue of Newsrail Express (Number 289) contains a table
giving ATOC's suggested alternative routes.

Here's the list:

Totally ridiculous. Those with heavy luggage are going to be majorly
inconvenienced. The good old days of the rather quick stationlink are
over. At least the cabs are going to be making more money now.

The south route 705 was so underused, keeping it open is a waste of
money, considering the Tube is there & there are other buses. The
popular Rt 205 will be remaining.

When i lived in London, and had to head from the south of the river to
Paddington i never once with my heavy luggage used stationlink. Bakerloo,
Circle done it for me. Didnt get caught in any traffic jams as a result,

Default Withdrawl of Bus Route 705 (Paddington - Liverpool Street via Waterloo)

I wonder really how useful the 705 was to anyone transferring between
stations. It is unlikely that a passenger would use a bus to transfer
between Waterloo, Victoria and London Bridge as in most cases a direct
interchange between trains is possible at Clapham Junction, Waterloo
East, Victoria etc. I suspect that Fenchurch Street isn't really a
major player when it comes to cross-London transfers. Other direct (and
more frequent) buses are available from Liverpool Street to all
stations (except Fenchurch Street) formerly served by the 705.
Paddington has other direct services to Liverpool Street and Victoria,
so the only real losses are Paddington-Waterloo and Paddington-London
Bridge - and many passengers between the West of England and the South
of England may well be better off changing at Reading and avoiding the
cross-London transfer altogether.

I don't know... it seems to take ages to get from Reading to Waterloo
via SWT. A couple of weeks ago, with engineering work on the GW, I had
to go Clapham Junction - Reading, Reading - Swindon and Swindon -
Gloucester instead of the usual Paddington - Gloucester direct, and it
added well over an hour to my journey time - even with quite tight
connections at both Reading and Swindow.

Yes, Reading - Waterloo takes just over an hour, whereas Reading -
Paddington takes just under half an hour, but if your intended
destination was actually on a route out of Waterloo, that difference
could soon disappear as you could change at Clapham Junction instead of
actually going into and out of Waterloo.

It was extremely useful to me, and often faster than taking a congested
overheated Underground train( or several such trains) last summer when
the Bakerloo was packing up frequently. I was visiting a relative in
Hospital in Kingston and the 705 was a real pleasure to travel in on
warm days. But it was tucked well out of sight of the main bus stops at
Waterloo and was unknown to a bus fanatic colleague of mine at
Paddington. No wonder I was often the only passenger.
