I believe that zone374 may be a typographic error for zone3&4, where a
person has failed to depress the shift key on his or her typewriter or
keyboard while depressing the &/7 key.

Board any train at Aldgate and watch for the Zone374 station signs.

Nor would I. To get to Z3/4 in North-West London from Zone 1, hop onto a
bus, like the 6, 13, 16, 18, 52, 82, 98, 113, or 189.

No - the OP has in fact stuck his head into a blackhole through which
he could see the future, a future in which Oyster has been adopted
across the country on each and every National Rail route. Zone 374 is
in fact the outermost zone - it covers the tip of Scotland (Wick
Georgemas and Thurso). An all-zones annual Travelcard is now a very
expensive proposition... but it is however valid for travel on all
land and water based modes of transport, apart from the Heathrow
Express.

Of course most people use Oyster Pay-as-you-go - though Oyster cards
are of course a thing of the past, most people now use a permanently
attached 'Oyster Fingertip' (which also allows one to pay for caffeine
shakes from StarMucks) - though privacy advocates are wary of this
technology and encourage to people to Faraday fingermeshes which
prevent radiowaves passing through and thus supposedly prevent any
malicious usage by ne'erdowellers or the 'authorities (as well as
being popular amongst conspiracy theorists the Faraday fingermesh has
now become a fashion item, though it must of course be removed to
allow one to touch-in and touch-out).

However Oyster Fingertips could perhaps be on their way out, as it now
looks like Oyster might be updated to incorporate the new 'winkpay'
system, you literally wink and pay. However the problem of unintended
payments using 'winkpay' has still not been resolved - Tescorp
Worldwide (owner of Tesco) had to refund EUR18 million to a woman who
kept winking at a cashier (the antiquated term still being in use
despite the rarity of cash) at her local Tesconvenience outlet and
paid 50 times over for a 1 litre vacu-carton of enhanced milk. She was
apparently just trying to "give him the wink".
