Well that is precisely how the media reported the change and invariably many
people went and wrote their code number in the format 020x xxx xxxx. Plus
with mobiles so common by 2000 many people need all 11 didgets anyway.

Despite the London split only lasting for 10 years, an alarming number of
people in London seem to think it's still there.
