Default South Eastern expand High Speed Service

South Eastern have bitten the bullet and are expanding the HS service.
There are extra peak trips and limited services beyond Ashford
commence on 7th September 2009. There's also one off peak return to
Ashford which doesn't look terribly useful. No weekend services :-(

I wonder if when they do introduce the weekend service they ought to drop
the premium fare for a while to encourage the locals to try it!

The problem is there are too many engineering works on at the weekends to
enable a robust service to be put into place

Even on the LGV? I rather doubt that.

I seem to recall that some of this engineering is in fact provision
for the HS service eg making it possible to evacuate in tunnels etc.

But that work (in the tunnels between Folkestone and Dover) is
underway at the moment with the line closed 25th July - 30th August.
Without this, the expanded HS preview service wouldn't be able to
reach Dover and the timing for the completion of the work is almost
certainly the reason that the Dover trains start on 7th September!!

They don't seem to have updated the actual high speed pages of their website
yet.

Indeed. But that prompts me to ask - there was talk of the daytime
'white period' maintenance slot on the CTRL/HS1 being moved to the
night-time to allow for an uninterrupted daytime SE-HS service (post-
December) - has change this been confirmed yet?
