Wow, thanks everyone, delighted to see one of my threads get so much
response - usually they're damp squibs (on the rare occasions I post -
more of a lurker really.)
So to sum up, England seems to be Middlesborough, Huddersfield,
Salford (never thought of that one) or Birkenhead
Wales is probably Barry (I never realised it was so big in spite of
living nearby for many years and many happy Sunday afternoons at the
Knap)
Scotland seems to be Paisley, Cumbernauld or East Kilbride.
Any ideas on what the definitive answers are?
And yes I agree 'place' is tricky to define - but for me it's probably
'one' place rather than 'a collection' of places making up an urban
area. *Although where that leaves London....
No station (or tram stop) in Greater London is more than one change
away from central London, where central London means either a London
termini or zone 1 on the Tube/DLR.
