Default North London Line - Caledonian Road to Canonbury

The NLL re-opened today between Stratford and Gospel Oak. Platform
extensions where needed seem to be mostly in place, and the signage is
the same, except at three stations: Canonbury, Highbury & Islington
and Caledonian Road & Barnsbury. These three all have the London
Overground roundel. The last station seems to become an island
platform...

There are comments here and there suggesting it is odd that the island
platforms at CR&B have had numbers '2 and 3' handwritten over the 1 and 2
printed on the line diagrams.

Am I right in thinking that the originally intended plan was for CR&B to be
a three platform station, with it and Camden Rd using the existing west
bound platforms for through trains, with the 'centre platforms' (the old
eastbounds) used for services towards and terminating at Camden Rd?

Track diagrams are here of previous, intended, and descoped layouts:

Perhaps platform numbers '2 and 3' are required either for future proofing,
or simply because that is what they are still called in the signalling
system?
