Default free travel for all on the railways - the figures speak for themselves

No, it is not a dream, it is a practicality.

In the first place, the government is subsidising private businesses;
this is absurd. Either they should be run with no subsidy at all, in
which case fares would go through the roof, or they should be totally
subsidised.

In the latter case you really don't appreciate the enormous saving
this would bring about in the cost of travel.

We could afford to invest a great deal more in the railways and such
thing as track maintenance.

The enormous reductions in petrol and oil, less wear and tear on the
roads, everything.

True, trains would be very crowded for a while, but after that things
would level off.

Aside from that, a lot of commuting is just plain unnecessary, imagine
what would happend if they shut down all the City banks.
