Default What was an HST doing in Barnes?

Barnes sounds a bit odd though - how would it have got to/from the
Exeter line from there?

Turn left at Virginia Water and join the main line through Woking at the
Byfleet Curve. Turn right at Wilton Junction (just beyond Salisbury)
for FGW metals again. Straight on at Westbury for Bristol / S Wales or
reverse at Westbury for Taunton and beyond.

This route (Clapham Junction to Woking via Staines) is commonly used by
SWT main line services as well when there is work at Surbiton or
Wimbledon. There is also a regular stopping service on it, though
except Sundays this goes into the bay at Weybridge.

When there is work between Tisbury and Yeovil Junction, SWT do the "via
Westbury" bit as well (except they rejoin their own route via Castle
Cary and Yeovil Pen Mill) and ECS moves are run this way every weekday
to retain route knowledge.
