1. The station used to have fixed stairs serving the Underground and
escalators serving (most) Nat Rail platforms. Now it has escalators for
the Underground but fixed stairs for Nat Rail. Are we supposed to
believe this is an improvement?

I've not been to Blackfriars NR for ages but I did read on the FCC
project page that escalators are being installed and will be
commissioned in a few months time as work on the station finishes. I
understand lifts will also come into service then. Looks like mid May
for the main changes with some further small scale works by July.

Apologies. I had missed or forgotten this part of the plan.

2. How does that roof over the through nat rail platforms manage to let
in quite so much rain?

No idea. Perhaps it's not yet finished?

PS - I do intend to pay Blackfriars a visit to see what it looks like
in the near future. I'll try to avoid a rainy day!

What is currently visible is mostly hoardings! The view over the river
from the south end staircase, through clear glass, is recommended though.
