Wow, used rusty rails are worth, what is it, 7.5k a tonne? What are
they made of?


It beats me why a massive tidy up isn't launched to gather up all the old
bits of rail and other substantial metalwork that is left alongside the
tracks after a maintenance job.

There must be money in all that metal, otherwise why would the rascals
take
such a pleasure in "recycling" it.


I think it may be useful to have spare rails along the route in case a
rail breaks.


But since a crew and appropriate vehicle are going to have to attend any
such break, it makes more sense to take the rail on that vehicle rather than
leave them lying around randomly.

That's inviting theft and is wasteful of resources.
