Its not even a car length.

He had to get through the railing which is meant to resist vehicles,
and jump half the subway.

Those railings are not meant to resist vehicles. They are normal
pedestrian guard railings that are there to stop any pedestrian silly
enough to be walking round that side of the subway from falling down
into the subway.

The car may or may not have been speeding but it could easily land
where it did if it was travelling at 30 mph.
