I have had it not turn up on me in the past, so leave lots of time and
have a back-up option in case the bus is cancelled. But it will be the
simplest option, if a somewhat tedious[1] journey.

It is just a normal single bus fare, whatever that is these days. In the
context of getting a flight from Heathrow it will be financial
background noise. You would be getting on at the start of the journey,
so would be sure to get a seat. You might need to check where it goes
from, as West Croydon bus station is currently closed for rebuilding.

[1] Although with the best will in the world, Croydon to Heathrow by any
mode is never going to be "waking up at Sirkeci to catch the steamer for
Haydarpasa" or "watching bears from the window of The Canadian" :-)
