The piles to support Angel Square were sunk before the escalator
shaft. The alignment takes the shaft between the piles and out to
the line under City Road.

The Geotechnical Consulting Group used the excavation as a study
because the shaft came within 1.6m of the closest pile.
Monitoring found the piles moved very little and lead to new
