on Mon, 11 Jan 2016, remarked:

I had a set in Whewell's Court in my first year with no bedroom heating, a
British barbarity my parents refused to concede to. So I had to have heating
in my bedroom to make it habitable.

The 1960's estate house I called home then, didn't have any bedroom
heating either. It was built with just two small radiators, one in each
of the upstairs and downstairs halls. But I did get a bit of warmth
because the solid fuel boiler's chimney was inside one the walls of my
room.

At College, I think I started with traditional cast-iron radiators. But
there were still some courts (not mine) which required a trek to the
centrally-located bathhouse because of a lack of their own baths.
