Default GOBLIN 172s: where do they go during their hols?

In message , at 09:32:12
on Sun, 29 May 2016, remarked:

AGA's DMU shortage also shows up in the inability to run long enough
trains on some services, e.g. Cambridge-Ipswich, and increase the
Peterborough-Ipswich service to hourly.

Doesn't the latter require doubling Ely-Soham?

Maybe but not seen it stated though.

The best I can find at the moment is this rail-blogger:

"Making Ipswich-Ely an hourly service was also looked at a few
years back but couldn't make a business case even assuming the
Soham redoubling was already done (which was necessary to create
the extra paths)."

Other proposals in fantasy-1:1-model-railway-land is to reinstate the
curve at Newmarket and have a Cambridge-Newmarket-Soham-Ely service.
Especially as Soham-Ely-CHANGE-Ely-Cambridge doesn't sound very
appealing, especially on the current timetable (which has excessive
layovers at Ely).
