They're the first thing I look for when I'm
at a big interchange I haven't used before.

Incidentally, the market research which approved them was presumably
performed on the original half-dozen or so specimens, into which the
necessary manpower had been poured to make them usable. Subsequent examples
look churned out with no thought to usability. To carry out market research
in this way does not serve the public.
