Probably a marketing thing. They renamed Forton to
Lancaster, and Burton-in-Kendal to plain "Kendal",
and it caused so much confusion that they had

But the names don't really matter. You see the sign, you judge your
bladder's condition, and choose to pull in or continue. In fact, no-one ever
talks about great services, they only talk about crap services, so it is
surprising that the service operators haven't twigged that it is in their
interest not to name them at all, in order to hamper anyone trying to
discuss how crap a particular one is.

I think they should call them all Spartacus, and advertise them 1m in
advance.
