Default L. B. Waltham Forest Plans for Rail In Leyton.

My local authority, Waltham Forest, have produced a leaflet
with ideas for various schemes for developing the borough.
The ideas are far more sensible than is normally the case
with Waltham Forest Council..

One proposal which does strike me as eccentric is to build a
new station in Leyton at Ruckholt Road on the line from
Stratford to Tottenham Hale. First, the site is only a few minutes
walk from Leyton Underground Station and is on the edge of
Hackney Marshes where no-one lives. Second, yet another station -
Lea Bridge is on the same line - would add to journey times. Third,
new railway stations are astonishingly expensive and who post
Covid will have umpteen millions of spare cash to spend?

The leaflet also says "Substantial investment in Leyton Underground
Station will be a major boost to transport capacity and accessibility".
Certainly installing lifts etc would improve accessibility for some
people but no investment in the station will increase capacity. Even
off-peak trains call every three minutes and necessarily so, and it is
not Leyton Underground Station which prevents a further increase
in frequency. Here too there's the question of who is going to
finance this "substantial investment."

I'll be interested to see how these ideas progress.
