Replacement rail and road bridges in Kent

Many, many perfectly good brick bridges were knocked down and

the task).
Anyone care to a hazard a guess: Why?
Perhaps to make it easier to destroy the bridge in the event of an
invasion.
Have any of the timber bridges survived?
No idea.
