Default Route #726 to be replaced with new #X66

wrote the following in:

The new X26 service will now only run hourly between East Croydon
and Heathrow, forcing people living in Ashburton and Addiscombe to
travel into Croydon town centre if they want to catch the bus.

I've seen a few things about this route over the past few months and
everything I've read makes it seem as if this is being treated the way
bus routes are when someone wants to get rid of them. The strategy
seems to involve making the route as useless and inconvenient as
possible (reduce frequency, get rid of useful destinations or stops) so
that people stop using it and then the bosses can say "see, there's no
call for this route" and axe it altogether. I don't feel particularly
strongly about the route but it certainly looks as if this is what is
being done. Am I right?
