Default oyster conundrum

I was told this morning by Oystercard that advance renewals are only
online and not via the machines. I hope he was wrong. He didn't

sound
that confident about anything he told me. (Especially when I asked

"this
IS going to get better soon, isn't it?")

This is true. The machines can only renew Oystercards to commence on

that
day ...

Not in my experience. Can't remember whether I used one of the standard
touch screens or one of the quick ticket machines (possibly the latter).
Worked fine renewing in advance.

Is this the same machine that let you put pre-pay onto your Oyster? I

think
you've found a ticket machine with newer software than most...

No - a different machine. This was at Clapham Common on the way home from
work one evening. The pre-pay was at Tooting Broadway, although I think I've
seen it at Clapham Common as well.

Perhaps they're upgrading the machines - starting at Morden and working
their way up the Northern Line...

(Incidentally, when I renewed my travelcard via the machine at CC, I got a
printed record card - I know some people on the NG have been discussing the
lack of a record card when renewing)
