Default Oystercard at Bank DLR

In message , at 18:01:05 on
Mon, 14 Nov 2005, TKD remarked:
People who started their journey at an ungated NR station and interchanged to
the tube at somewhere like Moorgate perhaps?

Shouldn't they validate at Moorgate?

If you already had a ticket valid to Bank and were going to use prepay for the DLR
journey you wouldn't expect to validate at Moorgate.

How is that different from having a valid ticket to (say) Elephant and
Castle on the northern form somewhere up north, and wanting to use
prepay to extend the journey to Balham?
