Or more likely the BBC doesn't understand the tube map or the fact the
Central Line is shut today.

without the Central Line you would walk to Park Royal station, about 5
minutes from Hanger Lane, then you can change at Hammersmith for H&C
Line although the change requires you to leave the station.

Well indeed - the article refers to the Central Line which was shut.
There is then a quote that refers to one of the players being "a hero"
for knowing to go via Hammersmith (Picc then H&C).

There might be a bus that goes along the A40. They might even be
running a special one if the Central Line is closed.

The 95 but I imagine it was as stuck as their coach was.

Easier would have been for them to get a few minicabs. Surely even
Coventry City can afford that?

Which would then presumably get caught in the West London traffic
quagmire?
